City Of Minneapolis-Human Resources Visual Communications Management Coordinator in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Description The Visual Communications Management Coordinator is responsible for shaping and maintaining the City's visual identity across all communications channels, including print and digital formats. This role ensures that the City's brand elements-logos, colors, typography, and graphic standards-are applied consistently across departments and projects. The coordinator will design brand elements; develop and enforce policies and guidelines that govern visual communications; collaborate with internal teams and external vendors; and ensure compliance with accessibility standards. Salary Expectations Anticipated starting salary range: $76,009.44 - 92,387.36/annually, depending on qualifications. Work Location This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office. *The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas. Job Duties and Responsibilities Manage and strengthen the visual identity of the City in digital and print formats. Create and oversee design and brand elements to ensure consistency of the City's identity. This includes logos, colors, typography, wordmarks, digital elements and graphic standards. Administer the implementation of communication objectives related to enterprise visual identity. Review, recommend, approve and guide work by graphic design vendors and City staff ensuring their work aligns with City brand standards. Serve as the point of contact for enterprise-level visual communications decisions, including managing platforms like Canva to ensure graphic standards are met. Work closely with the social media manager to ensure graphics support overall campaign objectives. Create engaging graphics and content for social media, email newsletters, websites and other digital platforms. Ensure that City visual communications meet accessibility requirements for people with disabilities and ADA compliance. Create policy, process, and procedures as they relate to visual communications, including all print and digital formats. Educate staff on policies, process, procedures, design best practices and provide individual coaching where necessary. Manage compliance of the City's branding identity regarding enterprise mass email communications and work as a liaison with vendor who provides the email platform. Track requests, progress and performance of created content and make data-driven recommendations for improvement. Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. Background Check The City has determined that a thorough Minneapolis Police Department criminal background check is necessar for positions with this job title. Applicants must sign an informed consent allowing the City to obtain their criminal history information in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be considered for the position. Drug and Alcohol Testing All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position. Eligible List Statement The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire three months after it has been established. Interview Selection The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g. Adobe suite, Canva and mass email communication) Knowledge of brand identity, with experience in public entities such as cities, counties, and special public agencies. Ability to review projects and articulate compliance with standards, and creatively solve problems. Knowledge of and ability to manage print jobs, including working and coordinating with printers, press checks, and vendor selection. Communication skills and the ability to tactfully deal people regarding their ideas and the visual identity of the City, and to creatively work with the staff to make changes so that the project does reflect the identity and brand of the city to its residents and taxpayers. The ability to work effectively with department heads, directors, City Council, and the Mayor's office in providing guidance on visual communications projects, communicating the pros and cons of particular projects, and win their support for policies, process, and procedures. Ability to think strategically and work effectively across different mediums. Considerable knowledge of design, visual identity, branding, and digital media, including current trends. The job also requires the ability to identify how new trends and ideas relate or do not relate to the City's communication mission and efforts.
