The Training Program Manager is responsible for both the design and the implementation of the training program for uniformed employees. This position reports to the Assistant Director of University Security within the University of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety (DPS). Responsibilities / Essential Functions 50% Develop and Maintain Training Program * Through collaboration with leaders across DPS, identify knowledge and skill requirements for uniformed employees which meet minimum requirements for Protective Agents in the state of Minnesota and which further DPS goals for campus safety within the scope of University Security's mission. * Select, and where necessary, develop, training curricula which provide uniformed employees with the knowledge and skill required to perform their roles proficiently, consistently, and confidently. * Develop, maintain, and implement effective processes for managing training records to ensure auditability of the overall program as well as accountability for individual employee training. 50% Lead and Conduct Employee Training * Manage training operations calendar including coordination of training rosters, times, dates, and locations for 44 Full Time and 65 Part Time employees. * Manage training equipment inventory and overall training program budget in furtherance of responsible use of University resources and effective budget planning. * Lead training sessions, as needed, including unit orientations, train-the-trainer sessions, and training for selected certifications. * Where necessary, perform on-the-job field training and special detail training for uniformed employees. This job may be designated as essential. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Qualifications Required Qualifications * Ability to become a certified instructor for various training curricula. * Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends to conduct on-the-job training, as needed. * Able to pass a background check. * Must meet and maintain requirements for access to law enforcement sensitive information including CJIS Data Access Terminals. * BA/BS plus at least two years of experience OR a combination of related education and work to equal at least six years in law enforcement, security-related field, or training-related field. Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position. Preferred Qualifications * Experience working and supervising security in a higher education setting. * Background in training and development of employees. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. * Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. * Ability to manage conflict respectfully and constructively. * Ability to work independently and with limited direction. * Experience managing or supervising students or part-time employees.
