The Hennepin County Sheriff s Office is seeking Sheriff's Detention Deputy Trainees to join the team! As a Trainee Detention Deputy, you will utilize your interpersonal communication skills to supervise detainees in a pretrial detention facility. You will also be responsible for maintaining security of the facility and ensuring the safety of all inmates, staff members, and visitors. Location and hours: This position is located at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415 in downtown Minneapolis. The position requires working a flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights, on-call, weekends, and holidays. Shifts will be 12 hours with work hours being either 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. About the position type: This is a limited duration (temporary), full-time benefit earning position that may last up to two years. In this position, you will: Successfully train and work on the job towards meeting the minimum qualifications for Detention Deputy. Fingerprint, secure, and release inmates. Conduct roll call and complete mandatory health and welfare checks on inmates. Search and inventory property. Conduct physical searches of inmates. Supervise custody of inmates and visitation; staff control rooms; conduct frequent security checks. Maintain records on inmates; prepare jail incident reports. Respond to emergency situations, including the need to use physical force and/or provide basic emergency medical care. Ensure the safety and security of the facility.
