University of St. Thomas Tenure-Track Assistant Professor - Teacher Education in Minneapolis, Minnesota

OVERVIEW

The Department of Teacher Education at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education specializing in literacy/reading to begin September 2025. This is a full-time, tenure-track appointment.

The School of Education prepares transformative teachers and leaders to positively impact students’ lives. Position Responsibilities

Successful applicants will join a collaborative, creative teacher education faculty which prepares candidates for initial licensure and advanced certification in five licensure areas.

Primary responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to literacy and general teacher education content. Courses are delivered in face-to-face, online, and blended formats.

  • Producing scholarly research and publications

  • Advising graduate and undergraduate students

  • Collaborating with K-12 schools

  • Contributing to School of Education initiatives

  • Engaging in service to the department, school, university, and community

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate (U.S. or foreign equivalent meeting HLC requirements) in literacy/reading or in a related area with either a masters degree in reading/literacy preparation or a minor in literacy equivalent to 18 graduate level semester hours; ABD will also be considered (completion date August 2025)

  • A minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience

  • Expertise in field-based teacher preparation

  • Experience with collaborative school and community-based initiatives and partnerships

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and make scholarly contributions to the field of education

  • Experience with use of technology integration in teaching

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience and evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level

  • Experience with teacher performance assessments (edTPA, CPAST)

  • Experience working on externally funded projects and seeking external funding

  • Record of school/community partnership or collaboration
