The college offers eight majors and ten minors to prepare students to solve biological problems facing our world. Overview of the Role By helping students to identify their strengths, interests, and pertinent resources and learning opportunities, the Senior Career Coach assists students in building skills to make commitments that inform and guide their educational and career plans. Career coaches help students to be reflective about their learning and to develop the broad range of qualities and experiences necessary for successful job search, application to graduate studies, or application to professional health programs. The person in this role will join a team of three others focused on career development and report to the Associate Director for Career Readiness. The salary range for this position is $62,000-$65,000. 50% Career Coaching -The cornerstone of career coaching is the ability to build authentic relationships with individuals with varied backgrounds, perspectives, and identities. The responsibility of this role is to first build relationships, then utilize those relationships to holistically support and guide students and recent alumni who are pursuing a range of careers in industry, research, graduate education, and professional health programs. -Provide holistic, inclusive career coaching to CBS students as they learn about careers in the biological sciences and health professions, and pursue experiences that are reflective of their career goals, strengths, values, interests and identities -Coach students as they identify their career goals and pursue related experiences, through individual one-on-one appointments and drop-ins, as well as provide support on document development (resumes, cover letters, personal statements), job/internship/shadowing search strategies, and gap year opportunities -Conduct mock interviews with students and provide constructive and developmental feedback intended to improve their performance -Assist students in handling uncertainty and disappointment, and redefining goals -Serve as a cultural navigator of the world of work and higher education 30% Career Programming + Resource Development -Designs and implements programs and activities that support students in making meaningful connections with professionals that build their network/social capital and contribute to their future success. -Create an integrated programming approach for CBS students, utilizing emerging trends in life science industries, assessment data, and best practices. -Provide innovative life sciences career development services and activities, including programming directed towards identities underrepresented in the life science industry and healthcare settings -Coordinate and deliver workshops with the intent of increasing awareness and involvement in biology and health related experiential learning opportunities -Serve as an instructor for various career related courses -Create career content and resources for students, including CBS website, online preparation materials, and electronic communications -Establish collaborative relationships with industry professionals -Develop relationships with CBS-related clubs and student organizations -Maintain resources and conduct outreach to facilitate knowledge of graduate school application process among CBS staff and faculty -Participate in planning and supporting career fairs related to CBS students -Collaborate with Student Services staff, Dean's office staff, alumni relations, and CBS Student Board to support career development programming -Build a network of recent alumni willing to suppo t and serve undergraduates interested in their chosen profession -Support student outreach and promotion strategy to promote career services 10% Senior Career Coach Area of Expertise -Pending restructure of project assignments and background of candidate. 10% CBS Student Services Collaborations, Professional Development + Service CBS Student Services is a blended student affairs unit, providing collaborative and integrated support for the CBS undergraduate experience. -Engage in the broader work being done in Student Services on behalf of CBS undergraduates and cross-functional area collaborative projects -Participate in college-wide functions and recruiting events for current and prospective students to provide an excellent student experience -Commitment to ongoing social justice and equity work in order to identify, challenge, and remove barriers to access at the individual, community, and system level -Continue professional development and scholarly activity in the field of pre-health advising and career development to maintain knowledge of trends and best practices -Participate on Student Services, College and University-wide committees as requested -Contribute to the strategic planning process for career services and CBS Student Services and ongoing evaluation for improvement of services Qualifications Preferred Qualifications -Master's degree in higher education and student affairs, college student personnel psychology, counseling, social work, or related field -Previous career coaching/counseling experience or as a career course instructor -Familiarity with national trends and leading practices in higher education career development and the related needs specific to Generation Z, and life sciences and pre-health students -Demonstrated experience in applying an equity lens within career services work -Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to make effective large and small group presentations -Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative professional partnerships (students, staff, faculty, employers, graduate/professional school representatives) -Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to initiate projects and programs and see them through to completion Required Qualifications -BA/BS degree plus at least five years of relevant experience, or master's degree plus at three years of relevant experience.
