We study the biological processes that underlie epilepsy development, using biological imaging techniques, EEG, molecular biology, and pharmacology approaches. Most day-to-day activities would include rodent handling/procedures and tissue-based procedures. 60% Research and Scientific Tasks -Perform translational epilepsy studies, including behavioral and EEG experiments -Perform histological experiments (histological and immunofluorescent staining) -Perform basic molecular biology experiments (PCR and in situ hybridization) -Perform stereotaxic surgeries -Perform biological imaging, including confocal microscopy and multi-photon imaging -Analyze biological imaging data 40% Laboratory Support Tasks -Oversee lab supply ordering for the lab and track supply expenses -Ensure supplies are received and stored under the proper conditions -Coordinate autoclaving and sterilization of lab tools -Oversee basic aspects of colony maintenance, including routine documentation -Assist the PI with new hire onboarding: introducing lab SOPs/guidelines, adding personnel to protocols, and providing some hands-on training -Assist the PI with colony reports and internal document submission Qualifications All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required Qualifications: -BA/BS in a related scientific area (Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology, etc.) and 2 years of related experience or a combination of related education and experience to equal at least 6 years -1.5 years (or more) of full-time lab experience (particularly in a 'wet lab' environment) -Willingness to work in a team environment Preferred Qualifications: -B.S. in Neuroscience -2-3 years of full-time lab experience (particularly in a 'wet lab' environment) -Proficiency in stereotaxic procedures -2 or more years working with animals -Strong knowledge of UMN ordering and administrative systems/processes If you are interested in working with our lab, but less than 1.5 years of working experience, we encourage you to apply to our open Researcher 1 position, here: https://hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/363836 If you have direct questions regarding this position, please reach out to the PI (Tony Umpierre): umpie002@umn.edu About the Department Neuroscience is the scientific study of the nervous system.
