The position is ideal for a recent graduate (e.g., B.A., B.S) and/or someone with a year or two of experience as a research assistant in a neuroscience laboratory. The position is ideal for someone who is interested in gaining a couple years of full-time experience prior to applying for Ph.D. positions in Neuroscience, Biology, Cognitive Science, or Psychology. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in neuroscience, and in particular perception, multisensory integration, psychopathology or psychiatry, and/or decision-making. The successful candidate will report directly to, and be mentored by, the Lab Director (Dr. Noel). Dr. Noel will invest significant time in training the successful candidate. A passion for learning and being pro-active and a great communicator are a must. The ideal candidate will be involved in all aspects of neuroscience research, while having a focus on animal training and behavioral data collection. Job Responsibilities: 70% Rodent Research, Daily Operations: - Rodent handling and behavioral shaping for head-fixed experiments. - Rodent husbandry, ordering, and interfacing with veterinary staff. - Rodent surgeries with aseptic techniques. - Maintain water- and weight- logs for animals. - Rodent histology, probe track reconstruction. - Perhaps, perform neurophysiological recordings in rodents. 30% Laboratory building/management - Ordering materials as needed. - Troubleshooting experimental setups and communicating with Lab Director and/or Lab Engineer when encountering issues. - Coordinating with administration regarding lab maintenance / modifications. Responsibilities may be adjusted if the candidate expresses an interest and ability to take on further roles. Salary Range: $41,600 - $60,800/year Starting Date: September 15th - November 15th , or as negotiated with selected candidate. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - B.A or B.S. in Neuroscience, Biology, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years - Interest in science, particularly as it applies to the brain (e.g., neural networks, brain-computer interfaces, neurobiology) and perhaps psychopathology (e.g., Autism) - Ability to efficiently communicate in English (written and oral). - Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is also required. Preferred: - Experience handling and behavioral shaping of rodents - Experience with rodent aseptic technique and neurophysiological recordings. - Some MATLAB and/or Python coding experience.
