Lead Innovative, Multi-Disciplinary Research Initiatives Drive and manage research projects focused on sustainable management of swine and poultry, collaborating with faculty, the Integrated Animal Systems Biology team, and other research groups. Conduct rigorous experiments and analyses to advance sustainable livestock nutrition, integrating innovative practices that optimize production efficiency, animal health, and environmental stewardship. Disseminate research findings through publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the body of knowledge in sustainable livestock production. 2. Develop a Systematic Framework for Addressing Livestock Production Challenges Undertake comprehensive life-cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts of both swine and poultry production systems, identifying key areas for reducing carbon and resource footprints. Implement a systems-thinking approach to tackle complex issues in nutrient circularity and sustainable livestock production. Use system dynamics modeling to create a holistic understanding of the interactions among nutrition, animal health, and environmental sustainability in livestock systems. Prioritize research that contributes to the principles of One Health, emphasizing the interconnectedness of animal health, human health, and environmental health. 3. Secure Extramural Funding for Research Program Development Obtain and manage grants from external sources to establish a robust, sustainable research program focused on the upcycling of agro-industrial byproducts and sustainable ingredients in swine and poultry diets. Design studies to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and environmental benefits of alternative ingredients in livestock diets, aiming to improve nutrient circularity and biodiversity and reduce reliance on conventional feed resources. Foster partnerships with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and academic collaborators to support and expand research funding opportunities. 4. Mentor and Support Students in Livestock Sustainability Provide guidance to graduate and undergraduate students within the Livestock Sustainability group, offering mentorship on research methods, project development, and academic writing. Cultivate a collaborative and supportive research environment, encouraging student innovation and critical thinking within sustainability-focused livestock research projects. Support students in achieving their research goals, contributing to the academic and professional development of future leaders in sustainable animal agriculture. Qualifications Required Qualifications: * PhD in Livestock Sustainability and related areas (e.g., agriculture engineering, ecology, animal science, veterinary medicine) with one or more years of research training. * Demonstrated ability to propose and conduct independent and collaborative research. * Publication record in peer review scientific journals. * Ability to successfully multitask and organize workflow; manage multiple projects and schedules; and communicate effectively around project timelines and deliverables. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively depending on the task. Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated experience in life-cycle assessment, systems modeling, or other analytical approaches in sustainable agriculture or livestock nutrition. * Proven success in sec ring research funding and publishing in scientific journals. * Strong ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams, with a commitment to advancing sustainability in animal agriculture.
