Current research is focused on feed additives to improve energetic efficiency, nitrogen use efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas and nitrogen emissions from dairy cows, as well as research to characterize relationships between circadian rhythms and metabolism of dairy cows. Position Overview This position will be required to manage laboratory activities and assist the PI and graduate students with research projects. This is a part-time, 20 hours a week, in person position. Duties will include: (30%) Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and samples and equipment and order new supplies when needed (10%) Assisting with management of IACUC protocols (20%) Assisting graduate students with feeding and sampling cows for dairy nutrition experiments (30%) Assist with laboratory work and maintenance of laboratory equipment (10%) Managing undergraduate research personnel Qualifications Required Qualifications: B.S. in Animal Science or related field, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years Experience handling and conducting research with dairy cattle Experience with feed drying, grinding, and analysis procedures Strong organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills and a team-focused attitude Willingness to learn new laboratory procedures Demonstrated commitment to advancing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion including the ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals with diverse identities and underrepresented groups. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with analytical chemistry techniques including fat extraction, acid-hydrolysis, bomb calorimetry, and detergent fiber analysis Experience with physiological assays such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, cell culture, PCR About the Department Department Overview The Department of Animal Science is recognized nationally and internationally for its excellent research, teaching, and extension programs in animal agriculture and animal biology.
