The research would focus on searches for gravitational waves with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), as well as optical counterparts with the Zwicky Transient Facility, a time-domain optical survey to study the transient night sky photometrically. Transient and variable optical sources are studied by utilizing high-cadence, ground-based cameras to point at objects identified by large scale time-domain surveys. This method has been used to study multi-messenger sources such as the optical counterparts of binary neutron-star mergers and white dwarf binaries. The post-baccalaureate researcher will participate in the study of these and other objects and also participate in the development of software to analyze current and forthcoming data. Job Duties 60% Develop or modify existing computer programs to analyze data 20% Prepare and create research plots and presentations (poster and/or oral talk) 20% Participate in the preparation of research papers Other duties of a similar scope as assigned. Qualifications Required: Employee must hold a B.A./B.S. in Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field or a combination of education and work experience to equal four years. Preferred Some knowledge of Python or (an)other programming language(s), including Javascript.
