They serve as a consultant for other members of the Health Service staff and the faculty and staff of the University community. A limited amount of psychotherapy is also involved. The psychiatrist must abide by the medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations and medical policies as established by the medical staff of Boynton Health, the Mental Health Clinic, and Regents of the University of Minnesota and the laws of the State of Minnesota. Detailed Job Responsibilities: Provide psychiatric services to eligible clientele. Diagnose and treat mental health conditions. Assist in health promotion. Take psychiatric medical histories. Order or perform appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret findings. Write prescriptions as indicated to treat mental health conditions. Provide high-quality health care services including the following: Education of and effective communication with patients concerning the diagnosis and treatment of their psychiatric conditions, appropriate preventive measures and use of the health care system. Treatment that is consistent with diagnosis and clinical assessment. Provision of continuity of care for psychotropic medication management. Appropriate, accurate and complete medical record entries. Adequate and appropriate transfer of information when patients are referred to another health care provider. Perform culturally competent assessment of health risks, social history and current health status. Devise, implement and evaluate plans of care utilizing sound clinical judgments based on assessment of the psychological, emotional, societal, physical and environmental needs of the client. Consult, refer and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of total patient care. Utilize the resources of the University community and surrounding area community. Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by involvement in peer review and the review of protocols and procedures; participate in continuing education. Provide supervision to psychiatry trainees as needed Consult with Boynton Health medical providers regarding the mental health needs of University students and staff. Maintain ties with appropriate referral sources in the University. Be available for in-service training, discussion or consultation as requested by various departments within the University. Serve on committees of the MHC, Boynton Health and the University of Minnesota at the request of the Psychiatry Director or the Director of Boynton Health Address urgent and routine patient and peer communications in a timely manner and arrange appropriate services for patients with urgent needs. Provide liaison services with other health professionals and the community at large. Develop and present (as needed and requested) programs, seminars, etc. related to student and community mental health in and for Boynton Health and the University community. Serve on operational committees of the Mental Health Clinic at the request of the Psychiatry Director. Qualifications Required Qualifications: M.D. or DO Degree from an accredited medical school. Board eligible or certified in the specialty of psychiatry. Maintenance of program of professional improvement. Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
