Fairview Health Services Manager Sterile Processing Operations in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Here at M Health Fairview, we are seeking a Manager of CSP Operations to join our team at our University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank Riverside location in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This role will be responsible for the management of daily operations of the System Central Sterile Services Department to include all sterile processing, decontamination, inventory control, distribution, employee training and quality control. This role will manage current staff and CSP practice, collaborating with the Perioperative Team and system sterile processing team.

This is a full-time, day shift position (1.0 FTE) working Monday through Friday with weekends as needed.

Responsibilities Job Description

Provides oversight and direction to the System Sterilization Oversight Committee that directs standardization of the Fairview System sterilization processes, policies and procedures, AAMI, AORN, EPA, OSHA, TJC, CMS, Department of Health, Infection Prevention, and other related industry guidelines.

  • Assumes responsibility for the operation of the System Central Sterile Services Department. Manages the overall operation and activities of the unit.

  • Recommends and formulates necessary policies that assures compliance with state/federal guidelines, which govern the management of the program and coordinates with Fairview policies.

  • Determines staffing needs as evidenced by budgetary analysis and/or department indicators on an ongoing basis, providing an appropriate number, mix and selection of competent staff.

  • Manages the production schedule to ensure the hospitals’ surgical instruments, linen, metal ware, implants, and sterile product needs are on time, sterile, functional and complete.

  • Assists the director in developing a strategic plan consistent with Fairview’s long-range plan.

  • Assists with the development of and manages to the department dashboard and process improvement initiatives.

  • Aware of TJC, AAMI, AORN, OSHA, JC, CMS, Department of Health, Infection Prevention and other regulatory requirements related to instrument processing and employee safety.

  • Manages and maintains the required documentation related to sterile processing and employee safety.

  • Provides oversight and direction to the System Sterilization Oversight Committee that directs standardization of Fairview System sterilization processes, policies and procedures, AAMI, AORN, EPA, OSHA, and other related industry guidelines.

  • Knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Education in the areas of sterile processing

  • Responsible for Human Resources management of the employees in the Central Sterile Services Department.

  • Provides supervisor staff with both annual performance reviews and on-going performance feedback and recommendations for staff development.

  • Counsels staff in Human Resource management issues.

  • Ensures compliance with HR policies, department guidelines and applicable union contracts.

  • Provides leadership in team building, employee engagement and conflict management.

  • Rounds at all hospital sites to identify customer needs, process improvement needs, and maintain good customer relations.

  • Audits compliance of sterilized products.

  • Interpersonal communication skills

  • Process Improvement skills, preferred Six sigma, LEAN manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of the Instrument Tracking system

  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served.

  • Partners with patient/care-giver in determining their sterile produce and instrument needs.

  • Communicates in a respectful manner.

  • Ensures a safe, secure environment.

  • Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.

  • Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.

  • Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/care-giver.

Qualifications

Required

Education

  • Technical degree in Management, Surgical Technology, or Nursing. Bachelor’s of Arts or Bachelors of Science degree or six years directly applicable work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in sterile processing, supply chain or in the surgical services department. Three years of supervisory/management experience in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Sterile Processing, Surgery or related field.

License/Certification/Registration

  • CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician). HSPA CRCST certification is required within 12 months to continue employment.

Preferred

Education

  • Bachelors of Arts or Science Degree in Management, Business, Nursing, or related field. Certified Instrument Processing Technician Instructor. Certified Surgical Technician. Certified Instrument Processing Technician

Experience

  • Production process experience

  • Operating Room experience.

  • Six Sigma Training

  • LEAN Manufacturing

  • Instrument tracking Systems.

License/Certification/Registration

  • HSPA CRCST, CIS, CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader)
