The Future of the Past Lab was initiated in 2021 with goals to prompt, facilitate, and platform public-facing work and conversations that think about the systems of power embedded in the histories of our fields; how those systems have favored particular dominant perspectives; how our practice as scholars and teachers perpetuates these systems today; and how we can make changes that remove barriers for under-represented individuals and world views. Duties include working with CNRC faculty and staff to develop, plan, and coordinate all Future of the Past Lab activities including the visiting fellows program, blog posts, podcasts, development of the Artist in Residence program, creation of pedagogical resources, etc. Qualifications Required Qualifications: PhD or foreign equivalent in Classics Previous teaching experience as a sole instructor at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in scholarship, teaching, and/or the field at large Previous grant writing experience and demonstrated success in securing grants Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary and interdepartmental programmatic initiatives Demonstrated organizational and academic program planning skills Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in website building and maintenance Proficiency in Google Suite applications Excellent verbal and written communication skills About the Department The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Religions and Cultures is devoted to the study of the interconnected cultures and languages of the ancient Mediterranean world, from the dawn of civilization in the Near East through Late Antiquity.
