Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Hyperbaric Technologist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Hyperbaric Technologist in our Hyperbaric Chamber. This part-time (0.5 FTE) will work weekdays and every 4th weekend. Under general direction, an employee in this class performs work in a technical support position involving medical treatments in a Hyperbaric Chamber setting, and patient care services at the EMT level of training

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Insure the overall safe mechanical functioning of the chamber facility by regularly evaluating, testing and documenting the equipment and supplies used in Hyperbaric Medicine
  • Demonstrate mastery over our main resource for U.S. Navy Dive Tables and tender safety during all dives
  • Assist in the planning, execution, and documentation of routine maintenance of the Multiplace chamber facility and all associated devices
  • Operate and maintain customized mono-place hyperbaric chamber
  • Demonstrate proficiency with EPIC and other means of patients charting as well as being responsible for maintaining appropriate chamber logs
  • Perform transcutaneous oxygen measurements at normobaric and hyperbaric conditions.
  • Provide basic wound care with dressing changes
  • Determine what is deemed safe to bring in the chamber and what should be left outside or modified
  • Educate all HHS Respiratory Therapists about Hyperbaric Conditions and chamber specific oxygen delivery devices
  • Perform small-scale repairs and modifications of equipment
  • Insure that maintenance meets published standards for such pressurized vessels and participate in the development and documentation of a plan and schedule where published standards do not exist
  • Order chamber supplies
  • Arrange for large-scale repairs and maintenance equipment
  • Pressurize, monitor and depressurize the chambers safely during patient treatments, animal research, training, and testing
  • Maintain a log of all chamber runs according to PVHO-1 and PVHO-2
  • Assemble equipment used for administering oxygen to patients and staff
  • Operate back-up systems for chamber treatments, and activate the chamber fire suppression systems
  • Ready the chamber(s) prior to treatment following the pre-dive checklist and assure the patient equipment inside the chamber is available and ready to use and monitor and restrict as necessary for safety all equipment and materials used inside the chamber
  • Recognize and identify safety dysfunctions and halt patient care activity as appropriate
  • Document chamber incidents having potential health or safety effects
  • Ensure and document that all chamber and support personnel are properly oriented for emergency procedures
  • Work with department’s infection prevention standards and policy and assist with development of standards for hyperbaric specific cleaning procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/ Work Experience: * Completion of a training program such as Hyperbaric Technology, * Respiratory Therapist, Registered EMT-B, or Registered EMT-P with * credentials documenting such completion.

OR

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • Two years of experience in the technical operation and maintenance of
  • multiplace or monoplace high-pressure chambers
  • One or more years working on a BLS ambulance
  • Previous diving experience Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
  • Current certification in AHA BLS License/Certifications:
  • Current certification as a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist, Registered
  • EMT-B, EMT-P, Certified/Registered Respiratory Therapist, or other higher
  • level of patient care certification
