The Human Resources Generalist is a newly created position that will primarily provide payroll coordination and HRMS management within the University of Minnesota Law School. This HR professional position plays a primary role in managing bi-weekly payroll for 400-600 employees including temporary employees, students, adjuncts, staff, and faculty. This position will ensure the integrity of data, while continually monitoring HR information needs to meet changing requirements. This position will serve as a subject matter expert in their duties and will implement best practices as it relates to payroll administration. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Payroll Preparation and Management - 50% Serve as time and absence administrator; run reports and employee queries ensure accurate time reported and job data records for all employees; enter TDX forms to correct records, as needed. Develop best practices for the Law School internal process improvements and documentation to ensure flawless execution of payroll and HR processes to align with Central HR Operations. Partner within the Law School and advise staff and faculty on complex appointment, payroll hiring prior to submission of TDX requests. Serve as a resource for faculty, staff and students regarding updated payroll & HR policies and procedures that are in compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements, Civil Service rules. P&A, and Faculty policies. Build relevant knowledge and understanding and staying up to date on change in how TDX and PeopleSoft work together, which may include serving on committees and workgroups relevant to HRMS, TDX/PEAK, time and absence management, and payroll. Keep an eye on cutoff dates for entry and approvals as Time and Absence Administrator. Ensure the accuracy of entries by employees and resolve issues where needed. Provide trainings and knowledge transfer to the Law School community as updates to TDX forms and system requirements are implemented. Initiate and respond to inquiries concerning non-routine issues and identify potential approaches and solutions (i.e., system upgrade problems, and future system improvements). Working through internal processes, identify persons of interest, and UNS scholarship fellows' awardee's/appointments including: entry of TDX forms that include distributions, hiring, compensation, adjustments, etc. Work collaboratively with departments in the Law School to produce solutions, answer questions, and find efficiencies within the Law School Assist in internal auditing and quality control activities as needed, including auditing payroll abstracts and reviewing the pre-confirm report. HR Generalist - 45% Serve as primary I-9 administrator. Serve as an information resource for employees and supervisors as first point of contact for the general Law HR inbox. Partner with departments to create POI appointments, including TDX submissions to create, update, and end. Maintain HR files and documents for all employees electronically and in Perceptive Content. Create and submit Temp/Casual letters and submissions in TDX. Create and submit student appointment letters and submissions in TDX. Audit Position Management on a regular basis to ensure correct reporting structures, FTE changes, and classifications to ensure systems are compliant with all policies. Professional Development and Other Duties, as assigned* - 5% As an HR team member, provide information and support them to provide efficient operations in a service environment. Participate in professional development groups and process improvement efforts. Carry out any other assigned tasks that are essential to the success of the HR team and the Law School. * The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Working Conditions: This is a hybrid position with the expectation of being on campus one to two days per week initially, with added flexibility once the duties of this role are understood. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and or/experience to equal four years. Experience processing and auditing payroll. Experience handling confidential and time-sensitive materials. Knowledge of and the commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibilities. Experience interacting effectively and establishing cooperative working relationships with all levels in an organization. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace (Google doc, sheets, mail, etc.). Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Preferred Qualifications: BA/BS degree in Human Resources or related field. Experience with University of Minnesota policies and procedures. Knowledge of EOAA and a demonstrated commitment to advancing a diverse and inclusive workplace Experience advising supervisors on policy and procedure. Experience with PeopleSoft - particularly in an entry and audit role. Demonstrated solid understanding of employee relations, employment law, compensation, and employee engagement. Experience supporting HR in a unionized environment.
