The department is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of reliable and efficient transportation services on the Twin Cities campus including transit, parking, fleet, streets, walkways and way-finding. PTS supports alternatives to the single-occupant vehicle and promotes programs to encourage the University community to walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus. The department handles compliance documentation for all University vehicles or licensed equipment and administers the fuel credit card, vehicle insurance and safety, and employee driver training programs. PTS Mission Facilitating safe and effective integrated transportation systems that provide services for pedestrians, bicycles, transit and vehicles. Responsibilities * Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on automobiles, and up to class 8 trucks * Welding and metal fabrication * Ability to work in a shop or field environment. * Ability to diagnose drivability issues, read wiring diagrams, and use scan tools. * Keep shop organized, clean & safe * Maintain quality records of repairs/services. Work Environment This position requires work to be performed in both a shop and field environment. This position may be exposed to hazardous conditions where hearing and visual protection may be required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * High school graduate or equivalent and combination of vocational education and/or experience in heavy duty diesel trucks and heavy equipment maintenance and repair to total six (6) years. Experience must include arc and acetylene welding and with electronic diagnostic and precision measuring instruments. * CDL with airbrake endorsement, or willingness to obtain * Must have your own tools Preferred Qualifications * Ability to lift, bend, push, pull up to 80lbs, without restrictions * DOT Inspection Certificate, or willingness to obtain * May require A.S.E. certification in one or more areas. * Knowledge of automotive systems and equipment, preventative maintenance management principles and practices. * Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office products. * Excellent communication and customer service skills, both in person and on the telephone. Ability to effectively handle difficult people and stressful situations. * Ability to prioritize work in a multi-tasking environment. * Ability to gather, analyze and report information. * Ability to operate computerized maintenance management systems. Ability to follow process flow documents and actively contribute to process development.
