Job Description
Minneapolis College, a vibrant two-year community and technical college, is accepting applications for two (2) permanent, full-time positions of English Instructor in the English Department within the School of Liberal Arts and Cultures. Minneapolis College’s English Department consists of award-winning poets, writers, and teachers who have been recognized with state and national awards, McKnight Fellowships, and state-wide teaching awards. The department is committed to building equitable, student-centered classrooms.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Teaching a full-time (30-credit annual load) in college-level courses in English, primarily in English composition and college-ready writing, with occasional offerings in literature and / or creative writing.
Delivering instruction in multiple modalities, including on-campus, blended, and synchronous and asynchronous online formats.
Drawing on knowledge of critical race theories and literature from a diverse and contemporary canon of writers to engage our student body.
Participating in the development and implementation of curriculum and instructional materials within the English department.
Participating in student assessment. Assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, department, and college general education levels.
Engaging in the college community through committee work and interdepartmental collaboration.
Developing and revising courses and instructional materials.
Committing to providing quality instruction and services to a diverse student population.
Committing to consensus-driven decision making with colleagues in the English Department. Collegial and cooperative work relationships with colleagues in the department, department support staff, and all college personnel.
The schedule may include daytime, evenings, or Saturdays.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement
• Master’s degree with a major in English or
• Master’s degree in any discipline / field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) English.
Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement (http://www.minnstate.edu/system/asa/academicaffairs/cfc/fields/500006.html) (to be completed within first three years of employment).
Preferred Qualification
Community College Experience – two or more years of teaching experience in an urban setting, community college, combined community and technical college, and/or similar environment.
Composition/Rhetoric— coursework and/or practice in composition pedagogy; autonomous classroom teaching (2+ years).
College-Level Writing— coursework and/or practice in the theory and pedagogy of working with developmental writers toward achieving college-level writing skills (2+ years).
Technology and Pedagogy – Demonstrated teaching in multiple modalities, including fully online and blended models, and incorporation of multimedia into Composition as a discipline.
Artificial Intelligence – Experience navigating AI in the writing classroom.
Multicultural/Cross-cultural Texts— two or more years’ classroom teaching experience and/or significant graduate level coursework in multicultural educational theories, pedagogies, and settings.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and evidence of a strong and clear understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community colleges and their students, faculty, staff, administrators, and communities they serve.
Student-centered – demonstrated contributions to student growth and development through retention measures, student mentoring, and student activities.

Salary
Full time faculty salaries currently range from $43,067- $94,542 annually. Salary schedule placement is determined on the basis of education and experience and in accordance with the 2023- 2025 Master Agreement between the Minnesota State Board of Trustees and the Minnesota State College Faculty.
