This position serves our partners at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). MNIT MDE manages the technical functions critical to managing public education in Minnesota; supporting systems including funding disbursement and large-scale, public-facing school performance data reporting.

The Dev/Ops: Report Systems Writer exists to produce accurate, efficient, and meaningful web-based Minnesota K-12 education informational reports for internal and external stakeholders. In this role, the Report Writer will collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts (BAs), Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Project Managers (PMs), peers, and stakeholders in order to produce reports that meet stakeholder requirements.

Producing reports involve reviewing stakeholder requirements, evaluating datasets, developing and troubleshooting WebFOCUS code modules and producing appropriate output methods and formats. In addition, this position provides report development and support for numerous departments and groups including, but not limited to, managers, supervisors, State and Federal program's product managers, Early Learning Services, School Finance, Student Support Programs, Student Accounting, Special Education, Food and Nutrition Services, Adult Basic Education, State Student ID Product Support, Minnesota school districts or charters, and the general public.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of IT related experience in data analytics and reporting.

Experience must include:

  • Installation, configuration, and administration of WebFOCUS vS.x or higher reporting servers in a single sign-on environment.

  • Experience building of WebFOCUS applications (Bi-Portal, Managed Reporting, Self Service).

  • Experience designing, creating, analyzing, and maintaining WebFOCUS web-based and business intelligence statistical and financial process.

  • Experience designing and developing SQL data tables, procedures, and functions for business intelligence reporting systems.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

*A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Focus core language.

  • Experience with JavaScript extension libraries such as jQuery and jQuery UI.

  • Experience confirming reliability through testing using WebFOCUS, SQL, Server Management Studio, Microsoft Excel, and other web browser debugging tools and techniques.

  • Holds a WebFOCUS Master's Certification.
