Park Avenue Center provides evidence-based, gender-specific drug and alcohol treatment in south Minneapolis, Minnesota. First established in 1979, Park Avenue Center is a community-based program that proudly serves Minnesota's less fortunate individuals in beautiful settings. Using evidence-based best practices, we have maintained a reputation for the highest quality of services at extremely low rates. Clients we serve typically struggle with multiple barriers including mental illness, homelessness, financial problems, legal issues, and an overall lack of emotional support. Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, our staff includes Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Licensed Psychologists, Social Workers and a Registered Nurse. Position Summary:
The Billing Support Specialist is responsible for various auditing and clerical tasks to ensure both billing accuracy and compliance.
Essential Functions:
Verify and enter client group and individual attendance into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system ensuring accuracy and compliance
Work with internal partners (i.e. Assessors and Counselors) and payers to verify or obtain funding for clients and ensure accuracy of funding details
Maintain regular communication with Billing Manager and Clinical Staff regarding client data pertinent to records and the billing function
Complete and/or monitor accurate and timely data in Drug and Alcohol Abuse Normative Evaluation System (DAANES)
Complete monthly insurance verifications or changes using state MN-ITS system or EHR. When changes occur, work with clinical staff to complete necessary paperwork and obtain new authorizations in a timely manner, avoiding non-coverage and non-payment
Submit insurance claims to clearinghouse or individual insurance companies electronically
Follow up with insurance carriers on unpaid or rejected claims and resubmitting the claims as necessary
Prepare appeal letters to insurance carriers when not in agreement with claim denials; collect necessary information to accompany appeal
Contribute to department process improvement ideas, training, and implementation
Responsible for providing quality assurance for billing data
Maintain professional relationship with clients while following a code of ethics
Ensure that program administrative operations are conducted in compliance with all pertinent local, state, and federal laws as well as all other mandated requirements
Know and comply with client rights and of staff responsibilities as outlined in MN Statute 245G
Perform other duties as assigned
Education/Licensure/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred
Computer literacy required
Previous experience with an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system or computer billing system strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with billing experience in Procentive.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to achieve outcomes
Must have analytical, data entry, mathematical and problem-solving skills
Must have a working knowledge of issues regarding confidentiality
Must be able to maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and business community at large
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and present positive professional image

The starting wage is $21.00 to $24.00 per hour based on previous experience.
