As a member in the HNI Legal and Compliance team, this attorney will be supervising local counsel, managing and monitoring litigation, and supporting the business with commercial contract review and negotiation. What you Will Do: Litigation Management Assist in managing a litigation docket of active product liability matters, including coordination with and advising of internal business clients and reporting on litigations risks internally. Supervise outside counsel in a proactive manner to achieve the best result for the company, including managing budgets. Contracts Management Draft, negotiate, finalize and oversee the approval process for commercial contracts, in particular construction and IT agreements. Consistently analyze and mitigate complex contractual risk, while increasing efficiency and consistency in contracting. Education & Experience Required: Juris doctor to practice law in Minnesota or Iowa 5+ years of combined experience in the areas of litigation (products liability experience preferred) and/or general commercial law. Experience in product liability litigation and commercial law (drafting, reviewing, and negotiating large-commercial and/or IT agreements a plus) Recent, relevant, and broad litigation experience, as well as significant advice and counsel experience in a law firm, large in-house setting or equivalent Necessary Skills and Attributes: Demonstrated experience in commercial litigation (product liability preferred). Excellent legal, analytical, and drafting skills and the ability to communicate effectively with lawyers and non-lawyers. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels within the organization. Experience building and managing collaborative relationships with internal and external parties. Adaptability to manage changing priorities and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A high level of integrity, judgment, and a proactive and service-oriented mindset to assist in achieving client goals while complying with all applicable policies, rules, and laws.
