Strong skills in cell biology and mouse work will be critical to joining a team focused on identifying therapeutic opportunities to treat rare metabolic storage diseases through gene transfer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cell biology and/or developmental biology. Experience with animal modeling of human diseases, histopathology, general molecular biology, and work with viruses to facilitate gene transfer would be considered assets. The selected candidate is expected to provide thoughtful initiative and leadership skills in developing this project, and to contribute to the development of other research projects in the lab. Responsibilities: 70% Perform experiments: conducts large research projects, and/or multiple smaller projects, while overseeing the analysis, evaluation and reporting phases. This includes developing research plans, solving complex methodology, protocol and procedural challenges. Respond to changing conditions creatively and develop new approaches to resolving issues as needed. 20% Prepare presentations, draft manuscripts 10% Participate in laboratory meetings and general lab maintenance: serve as an expert resource to lab members and external collaborators, providing guidance on research methodologies and protocols. Instruct other lab members on various lab techniques. Provide guidance and input with similar research projects and leverage expertise to advance Lab research goals. Essential Employees The successful candidate will be designated as an Essential Employee. Essential Employees are expected to report to campus during a University State of Emergency (reduced operations or campus closure) unless specifically directed by the Department not to report or if directed by civil emergency or medical authorities not to report for health and safety reasons.
