Walman is looking for anADVI - IS Lens Product and Manufacturing Coordinatorfor our Minneapolis, MN location. This is an excellent opportunity to join our team!

Job Summary:

Provide Advanced Lens Processing/Manufacturing Support for digital and semi-finished lenses. Conduct advanced lens data analysis to support the selection of new lens designs/materials and ensure integrity of manufacturing processes. Analyze and regulate lens inventory at Walman Optical branches to enhance service levels while controlling inventory costs.

Position Specifics:

  • Advanced Lens Processing/Manufacturing:

  1. Understand, support and troubleshoot digital lens design calculations.

  2. Possess advanced knowledge of industry products and procedures.

  3. Communicate with business resources and vendors to analyze/resolve digital and semi-finished lens processing issues.

  4. Analyze and resolve advanced lens production issues escalated from Walman Optical or IS Help Desk.

  5. Evaluate, recommend and implement lens processing software enhancements.

  6. Train and advise IS and Walman Optical staff on lens processing procedures

  7. Diagnose and troubleshoot DVI machine interfaces and remotes within the Walman network.

  • Advanced Lens Data Analysis:

  1. Understand and maintain integrity between DVI Databases, Data Warehouse, outside vendor catalogs.

  2. As a member of the Lens Selection Committee:

  3. Coordinate testing of new vendor lens designs and materials; analyze results and costs to recommend primary vendors.

  4. Research, analyze, and verify technical information, costs, and barcodes in order to profile new lens information.

  5. Participate in the determination of which lenses we will sell and which vendors are used for production.

  6. Primary support and maintenance for DVI Params.vis file.

  7. Understand and analyze product data to support resolution of financial and inventory discrepancies.

  • DVI Inventory Control:

  1. Understand and implement Walman lens inventory policies and procedures.

  2. Analyze and coordinate branch lens inventory to improve fill rates and control inventory expense.

  3. Plan and coordinate introduction of new products and removal of obsolete products from branch inventory.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Occasional travel required (15%)

  2. Maintains work area in a neat, clean, and organized condition.

  3. Understands and follows all company and manufacturer’s policies and procedures and assures compliance of all attendance & safety rules and regulations. Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and HIPAA protected information.

  4. Willingly assists others as necessary to keep work current, meet deadlines or maintain even workload. Cooperates with other coworkers and demonstrates a good attitude. Performs an acceptable quantity and quality of work on time as required.

  5. Provides proper training, work direction, and technical guidance for less experienced coworkers. Attends in-house or Walman sponsored training meetings when necessary.

  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 2 year Technical or Associates Degree and 6 years of experience supporting complex ophthalmic lens production processes or equivalent combination of education and experience. Digital Vision Inc. (DVI) optical manufacturing software experience and advanced knowledge of lens designs and materials required.

  • Advanced ophthalmic product knowledge – lenses, coatings, machine capabilities

  • Strong working knowledge of vendor lens calculation engines

  • Experience assessing unique/problematic prescriptions and recommending viable manufacturing solutions

  • Advanced DVI software and Walman applications knowledge

  • Complex technical problem analysis and resolution experience

  • Strong customer service and technical support experience

  • Knowledge of Inventory control processes and procedures

  • Working knowledge of computer technology, networks and Microsoft products

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record that complies with The Walman Optical Co. Motor Vehicle Policy
