Actalent Component Engineer in Milwaukie, Oregon

Description:

The component engineer will work with engineering teams to assist in determining replacements for obsolete electronics components, materials and mechanical components from preferred vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve obsolescence process and documentation

  • Lead the effort for Product and Component Engineering team to create effective component engineering processes overall

  • Complete all Component Engineering tasks including: selecting alternate parts, reviewing component requirements to verify replacement parts can satisfy requests (with engineering support), manage inventory part numbers, maintain internal databases and maintain Approved Parts Lists

  • Focus efforts on simplicity, clarity, and consistently present 100% up to date information on all reports

  • Analyze and respond to technical and non-technical questions accurately and clearly

  • Focus on cost reduction and analysis efforts whenever possible, but does not negotiate price with suppliers and is careful to maintain a high ethical standards when dealing with suppliers

  • Attend and participate in Obsolescence Meetings, Design Reviews, Material Review Board (MRB), Failure Review Boards (FRB), Change Review Boards (CRB)

  • Keep current on all Component Engineering issues and create reports to clarify current issues when needed

  • Evaluate results of cost comparisons of components between vendors

  • Support procurement team in parts acquisition (generate RFPs)

Skills & Qualifications:

Must-haves:

  • Experience evaluating manufacturing components

  • Understanding of component/system reliability
