JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Purpose The Sheahan Lab in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy at the Medical College of Wisconsin is looking for a lab technician to provide organization to the lab and assist with experiments. The research focus of the lab is to uncover the neuronal mechanisms of itch and pain using cutting-edge neuroscience techniques. This position offers an excellent training environment for those seeking entry into graduate programs. Beyond the primary duties, there will also be opportunities for those interested in developing an independent project within the lab. Candidates with a background in biology, neuroscience, or computer science are especially encouraged to apply. Read more about the Sheahan Lab at: www.taylersheahan.com Primary Functions Maintain animal colonies (animal handling, genotyping) Perform molecular biology techniques, including DNA extractions, PCR, running gels Ensure compliance with biosafety and laboratory regulations Maintain inventory of lab supplies, equipment, and materials needed for lab operations Make lab solutions and reagents Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of lab space and specialized laboratory equipment Assist in designing, executing, and analyzing research experiments using a variety of molecular, physiological and/or behavioral approaches Review laboratory methods, manuals, and scientific literature needed to perform, troubleshoot, and document lab techniques Summarize and communicate research findings Participate in lab meetings and evaluate/interpret data Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, such as pipetting, making solutions, keeping a lab notebook, etc. Previous experience with handling rodents and willingness to work with animals is required Willingness to learn new techniques and troubleshoot protocols Ability to analyze data, think critically, and summarize data in writing as well as in group presentations Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively Preferred Schedule: Full Time/Variable Position Requirements: Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on equivalent basis Minimum Required Education: Bachelor\'s degree in scientific field Minimum Required Experience: 1 year #LI-NI1 MCW as an Equal Opportunity Employer and Commitment to Non-Discrimination The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
