JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Purpose A postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Guillory in the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering specializing in engineered biomaterials. The research in the lab focuses on 1. Developing advanced engineering biomaterials such as biodegradable metals and tissue engineered constructs for adult and pediatric cardiovascular applications and 2. Understanding how advanced engineering materials exert bioactive effects on their surrounding implant environment. Highly motivated individuals with a Ph.D and a strong track record of research accomplishments as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals are encouraged to apply. Primary Functions The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for: Designing, executing, and analyzing data from in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo experiments that test novel biodegradable metals, tissue engineered vessels. Explore the effect of metals and tissue constructs on reactive nitrogen species production and scavenging in vivo and in vitro. Develop state of the art approaches in biomaterial characterization and quantitative histology, including spectrometry based imaging and high energy spectroscopic techniques. Mentor junior lab members in experimental design and data collection/ analysis Lead and develop new in vivo vascular implant approaches to test biodegradable metals. Developing novel tissue engineering techniques for sustained long term and complex primary tissue culture. Coordinating lab projects with domestic and international collaborators on biodegradable metals and tissue engineering Preferred Schedule: Standard Business Hour Position Requirements: Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Required knowledge: A Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomolecular Engineering, or Bioengineering Skills and abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Programming skills (iolite, MATLAB, excel, Python, R) Small animal surgeries Biomaterial characterization In vitro primary cell culture SEM,TEM,XRD,FTIR, mechanical testing, ROS/RNS characterization, histological analysis, mass spec imaging Specifications Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.
