Meta Product Design Engineer (Consumer Electronics) in Milan, Italy
Summary:
Our team is seeking Product Design Engineers (Mechanical Engineers) who have the drive and commitment to deliver the highest quality next generation consumer electronics product to market and do it in a dynamic and collaborative environment. As an experienced Product Design Engineer, you will own detailed CAD design, and mechanical integration, as well as be responsible for stewarding subsystem level designs through the ideation, design, manufacturing, and assembly process. You will provide detailed evaluation of subsystems based on agreed upon design metrics and engineering best practices. This will require working in partnership with various cross functional teams including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineers, System Engineering, Tooling, Reliability, Operations as well as a range of other external partners. You will be required to develop a thorough understanding of our partners’ needs and provide solutions that are inclusive of them. You will be expected to bring an extensive technical background in engineering fundamentals as well broad experience in the product development processes and manufacturing, to aid the team in navigating the trade-offs between robust design, product cost, and time to market. Additionally, you will be expected to help build our fledgling team of engineers as we look to break new ground in the area of high fashion smart glasses.

Engage with partner and contract manufacturers to realize design goals.
Own and deliver complex subsystems to full system level designs and work flows.
Collaborate with team leads and cross functional partners to engineer solutions to customer needs.
Lead and participate in design reviews to ensure hardware quality.
Collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines in a team environment.
Use 3D and 2D CAD to generate parts, assemblies, and system level designs.
Model, build, test, and refine prototypes to generate solutions to complex design challenges.
Own part and subsystem designs as they transition from prototype to mass production.
Represent mechanical engineering perspectives in multi-disciplinary cross-functional team environments
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
Product design experience, with a focus on enclosure, electronics integration, and mechanism design.
Experience helping teams successfully navigate ambiguous environments.
Application of engineering fundamentals - Mechanics of Solids, Statics, Dynamics, Materials, Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, Statistics and as they pertain to consumer electronics development.
Extensive 3D CAD design skills.
Knowledge of various manufacturing techniques (Injection molding, Die-cast, MIM, Die-Cutting, Machining, 3D printing, etc.)
Experience in Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly.
Understanding of mechanical constraints systems.
Comprehensive problem solving and failure analysis skills.
Understanding of part tolerancing, assembly stackups, and statistical evaluation methodology.
Experienced in delivering technical communications in a cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience leading small team of engineers through the product development process.
Experience with embedded computing and wearable devices.
Direct experience in R&D and shipping consumer electronic hardware.
Expert with 3D design modeling and physical prototyping.
Proficient in advance 3D surfacing utilizing Siemens NX, as well as exposure to PTC's Creo
Experience integrating RF technologies such as WIFI, BT, GPS, etc.
Experience driving mechanical design from concept, through design for manufacture, assembly, and test.
Experience in working with contract manufacturing partners in the design, manufacture, testing and delivery of first generation hardware solutions.
