Motion Application Research Developer

Siemens Digital Industry Software

At Siemens, we are always challenging ourselves to build a better future. Through our simulation software, testing systems and engineering services we enable advanced manufacturing companies to get better products to market faster and turn superior process efficiency into key competitive advantages. We tackle the challenges associated with intelligent system design with a strong passion for innovation and a continuous drive for excellence.

You will be a member of the Motion team in an Agile Scrum environment, responsible for the development of a multibody dynamic simulation application based on our CAD/CAE platform called Simcenter 3D. This is an integrated suite of 3D FE and multi body modeling software which simulates and optimizes the performance of mechanical systems for structural integrity, noise and vibration, system dynamics and durability. Using Simcenter 3D, engineering teams can build accurate simulation models, simulate their real-life performance, quickly assess multiple design alternatives and optimize designs before prototype construction. https://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/global/en/products/simcenter/simcenter-3d.html

Mechanical transmissions are extensively used in many industrial applications, where they typically represent a failure-prone system, responsible for substantial energy losses, noise emission, and vibration excitation. To design robust, efficient and silent gearboxes, a fast and automated workflow for parameter exploration at the initial concept design stage is crucial, as well as detailed numerical analysis of the gearbox behavior on both component and system-level.

Siemens is focused within the Simcenter 3D Motion product to support the creation of detailed drivetrain multibody models so that the design/NVH engineer can focus on the tasks that are most important for him.

The successful candidate will join the Simcenter 3D Motion Solver development team. Duties will entail developing numerical algorithms, implementing, and maintaining them in the Simcenter 3D motion solver with goal to make the solver state of the art in terms of accuracy and performance.

Here are some highlights of what we look for in our next colleague:

  • A versatile researcher whose main strengths are applying theoretical concepts into working software.

  • Knowledge and experience in the field of transmission design, gearbox simulation within a multibody simulation context.

  • Independent, self-starter, with passion and dedication to deliver new and innovative ideas to our product.

  • Ability to collaborate and positively contribute and encourage others in a team development environment.

  • We are an international team, so we expect solid English communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical engineering or a related discipline or equivalent, with an emphasis in multibody dynamics and simulation.

  • Demonstratable knowledge of numerical analysis techniques used in the solution of multibody dynamics problems such as numerical integration.

  • Competence in C++ programming and some working knowledge of Fortran is desired.

  • Background or experience with a commercial multibody dynamics package such as Simcenter 3D Motion, Adams or Simpack.

  • Skills:

  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages

  • A comprehensive understanding of computer science concepts including advanced data structures, object-oriented analysis and design, etc.

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and debugging, etc.

  • Conversant with modern software engineering methodologies

  • Logical thinking and creative problem-solving

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to prioritize activities and deliver projects on time with quality

  • Motivation and a willingness to continue to further your knowledge and skills
