Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Trial-Oncology - St. Francis - Midlothian, VA

PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient’s problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment and evaluates treatment effectiveness; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures; serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments. Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department. Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery

  • Provides focused assessment to evaluate patients and their support systems for real and potential health and safety issues, educational needs, and resource availability upon initial interaction, throughout care and/or treatment, and at times of transition in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

  • Utilizes multiple means of communications including telephone triage, in-person interaction and the use of current and future technologies.

  • Facilitates patient access and progression through the Advanced Heart Failure Center.

  • Provide education to staff, patients and families as needs are identified.

  • Provides clinical and administrative program support to the cardiologist (s) and Advanced Practice Clinicians [APC (s)J associated with the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic, industry sponsors as well as staff and patients.

  • Maintains communication with referring clinicians

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

  • Associate of Nursing, nursing

  • 3-5 years cardiac surgery and/or cardiology step down or critical care experience as a Registered Nurse

  • Experience within a physician practice setting.

  • Working knowledge of medical record format and content of patient records.

  • Ability to review records, read physician documentation and verify patient identification.

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with practice managers and other medical group staff/leadership.

  • Work requires a high level of accuracy with the ability to concentrate on detailed information for extended periods of time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Works closely with the Clinical Support Services team.

  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The individual performing this job may anticipate possible contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies regarding infection control.

  • Travel outside the office is required.

  • Overnight travel on occasion to attend seminars and training.

  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur

  • May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights

  • May have periods of constant interruptions

The Research Nurse is a competent clinician who utilizes the nursing process and current clinical knowledge to provide professional nursing care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient’s physical, learning and psychosocial care. Coordinates clinical drug study protocols, using diverse clinical assessment and administrative skills and knowledge, to ensure that the appropriate data is compiled and reported, protocol and regulatory requirements are met, and study participants follow correct steps. Conducts study protocols in accordance with sponsor requirements, FDA, state regulations, and BSR policies and procedures. Provides appropriate clinical assessment of study patients to provide quality care throughout the study and follow up period. Confidentiality and accuracy of all study records will be ensured.
