General Transportation Tech I:Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.General Transportation Tech II:Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.General Transportation Tech III:Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: contract maintenance and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; operates light and heavy equipment; preventative and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties: General Transportation Tech I: Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations. Move/picks up litter and roadway debris. Operates heavy equipment such as front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor trailer haul truck, large tagline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck. Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mower. Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI. Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills. Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.General Transportation Tech II: Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; perform welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials, and products. Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadway, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites, assists stranded motorist as required. Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic. Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems Inspect barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards. Moves/Picks up litter and roadway debris. Operates complex heavy equipment such as motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt pavi g machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine. Operates heavy equipment such as front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor trailer haul truck, large tagline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck. Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mover.
