About you and this role- What you will do in this role

Materials Engineering Center (MEC) in Core R&D has an exciting opportunity for aSeniorApplication Testing Technicianto support application performance testing, design and laboratory needs, located inMidland, MI.

The Materials Engineering Center is a center of excellence within the Engineering & Process Science capability of Core R&D for design, multi-scale modeling, fabrication, and application testing that provides a competitive advantage for Dow.

In this role, you will be expected to safely achieve project goals using technical, role-specific skills and experience. This will include specialized and standard laboratory testing, novel test method development, and collation and analysis of test data to assist in making sound data-driven engineering decisions. Your key responsibilities will include safely operating and maintaining mechanical equipment, analyzing and communicating data, developing new test methods, and designing customized test devices and procedures.

Responsibilities- Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Foster a safe and inclusive work environment.

  • Own and operate mechanical testing machines including: instron, indenter, & environmental chamber.

  • Work with leadership and broader team to ensure requests are appropriately prioritized, completed, and reported.

  • Develop detailed test schedules/plans, to meet team deliverables in partnership with broader team.

  • Independently develop and execute standard and non-standard experimental plans, generate high-quality reproducible data, and use data-based analysis to help interpret results including presentation of results to clients/customers.

  • Defines and implement new testing methods which may require designing new test devices, configurations / methods of equipment and/or fabrication of new equipment and systems.

  • Document significant results and completion of projects by helping write clear, concise, and timely lab reports, assist with CRIs, etc.

  • Anticipate changes that will be required to overcome obstacles and complete projects or activities on-time and move quickly to achieve results and meet goals.

  • Provide support to leadership in capability development, new technology assessment, capital plans, Management-of-Change (MOC) and procedures.

Qualifications- Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

  • A minimum of an Associate’s degree or 3 years or more of military training/experience.

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel) and ability to learn new systems quickly.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills -An expanded list of qualifications that are "nice to have", but not essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.

  • Experience with writing experimental/equipment procedures.

  • Some familiarity with mechanical design and CAD.

  • Familiarity with computer programming (LabView/MatLab, etc) or desire to learn.

  • Knowledge of Dow MOC process.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Able to work in a diverse team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • General mechanical troubleshooting skills/aptitude.
