Position Details:

  • Location: 400 Saybrook Road, Middletown, CT 06457

  • Department: Primary Care (Family Practice / Pediatrics)

  • Schedule: Full time, 40 hours/weekly, Monday through Friday, hours between 8:00AM - 5:30PM

The Clinical Manager will provide clinical leadership and management at a ProHealth multi-practice facility including a variety of healthcare services such as primary care practices (adult and pediatric), Imaging ExpressCare, and phlebotomy services. They will be responsible for the oversight and management of the daily clinical operations to ensure the efficient administration of all clinical activities and adherence to health and safety protocols. In addition, the Clinical Manager will provide direct supervision of nurses, medical assistants, and phlebotomists as well as indirect supervision of the imaging techs in collaboration with the service line managers and clinical leads. This position will report to the Senior Practice Manager and collaborate with the Regional Nurse Manager. Other duties include participating in continuous improvement initiatives and leading clinical staff through transformative change and providing direct patient care when required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day clinical operations by handling issues within the site with Senior Practice Manager and/or appropriate leadership, while fostering an environment of continuous improvement and maintaining high standards for service

  • Plan, implement and evaluate the clinical staffing needs on a daily basis to adequately support patient care in a given area; assigning clinical staff based upon patient acuity, practice volume, and staff qualifications

  • Work with Senior Practice Manager, Operations Manager or others to respond to patient concerns as needed; monitor and address patient complaints within position responsibility; ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction; work with providers, clinical staff and others to address and prevent problems

  • Overall operational responsibility for the routine clinical functions including:

  • Direct oversite of the nurses, medical assistants, and phlebotomists

  • Collaborate with ancillary service line managers on the oversight of the imaging techs

  • Ensure appropriate clinical staffing levels and timely, accurate submission of payroll, management of staff time off requests for all direct reports

  • Direct oversight of clinical policies and procedures, as well as health and safety protocols

  • Ensure adequate equipment and supplies are available for assigned area

  • Partner with Senior Practice Manager and Regional Nurse Manager in the hiring of site clinical staff

  • Conduct audits of clinical staff to ensure staff are following standard workflows

  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Practice Manager, Site Medical Director and other medical leadership to ensure quality patient care is provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner while meeting all regulatory standards

  • Collaborate with Site Medical Director to foster, develop and maintain strong positive relationships with providers

  • Partner with Senior Practice Manager and Operations Manager to lead Active Daily Management activities including conducting daily huddles, updating visual boards, and conducting staff and provider meetings in order to ensure effective communication across all disciplines within the site

  • Provide effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the clinical staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and foster the effective integration of efforts with site-wide initiatives

  • Demonstrate a continuous process improvement focus through the ongoing analysis of site clinical operations to determine potential areas for improvement

  • Assist in management of patient flow and access; match patient volumes and staffing to meet expectations of patients/customers

  • Monitor practice quality metrics and manage efforts to improve results, including assigning staff to outreach for results and partnering with Operations Manager in assigning admin staff to schedule patients with gaps in care

  • Promote collaborative relationships between clinical staff and other departments; participate in the development and implementation of clinical performance standards including on-going monitoring of clinical staff competence

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Active, unrestricted RN licensure in CT

  • 5+ years of nursing experience

  • 3+ years of leadership and or management experience

  • Experience in coordinating or managing clinical staff

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling

  • Demonstrated customer service and/or patient relation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a primary care practice

  • Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office PowerPoint

  • Proven ability to find, recognize, motivate, cultivate, and retain employee talent while creating a fair, accountable work environment

  • Proven excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

  • Proven self-motivated with extensive critical thinking skills

  • Proven detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities

Connecticut Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
