Actalent Quality Engineer - Test Cell in Michigan City, Indiana

Job Title: Quality Engineer - Test CellJob Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Test Engineer to join our team. As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing, validating, and verifying all products within our test cells. You will oversee 8 stationary cells and 1 portable cell, determine the pass/fail status of product tests, and collaborate with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot any issues. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and reliability of our products.

Responsibilities

  • Establish robust test procedures, systems, and quality plans based on inputs from engineering, customer quality, and service.

  • Ensure thorough identification of possible failure modes, performance, and manufacturing escapes to reduce quality issues in the field.

  • Manage test cell facilities in all buildings (stationary, portable, units, oil-free).

  • Investigate and implement better test equipment, automation, and additional testing requirements for improved GR&R, discrimination, recording, analysis, and record retention.

  • Maintain process controls for test cell program software.

  • Improve test facilities with a focus on operator safety and efficiency.

  • Ensure efficient and effective calibration of test cells and associated equipment.

  • Participate in Global New Product Development projects regarding DVP&R verification and required testing during production.

  • Work cross-functionally to eliminate internal test/quality escapes.

  • Post and track all issues identified in tests daily, and establish trend charts to measure improvement.

  • Track and discuss internal assembly escapes caught in tests during daily toolbox meetings.

  • Analyze test data and issues, discuss trends, and form teams to mistake-proof issues based on collected data.

  • Assist in establishing finished product quality criteria and provide examples of acceptance criteria where needed.

  • Integrate processes to meet company standards.

  • Participate in Layered Process Audits (LPAs) as needed.

  • Assist with quality system maintenance as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology (Preferred: Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering with electrical experience acceptable).

  • 3+ years of experience in test plan creation and test procedure development.

  • 3+ years of troubleshooting and root cause analysis for testing and product quality.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing setting (e.g., appliances, automotive, industrial equipment).

  • Specific experience in electrical testing, quality validation, and verification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical and mechanical testing and troubleshooting.

  • Skilled in test engineering, electrical engineering, and quality engineering.

  • Proficiency in software testing, root cause analysis, and wire harness/electrical schematics.

Work Environment

You will work in a dynamic environment with separate buildings for testing and machining. You will have your own cubicle and oversee both buildings. The offices are currently being updated/renovated. The team comprises 9 technicians, 4 engineers, 1 QMS coordinator, and 1 calibrator. The role offers vertical growth opportunities, a collaborative work culture, and annual pay increases. The company is moving towards more electrical and sustainable product lines, including the new E1035 electric compressor.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00
