The Department of Marine Geosciences at the University of Miami is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 1 to work at the Rosenstiel School on Virginia Key, Miami, FL. The Research Associate will support the PI and other lab group members on research projects, ensuring all requirements of the research protocol and data analysis are met. In addition, the Research Associate will have clerical responsibilities to ensure smooth operations of laboratory.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
· Prepares samples and operates scientific instruments for measurement of elemental concentrations and stable CNS isotope ratios in sediments, waters, and organic matter
· Conducts alkalinity titrations of water samples
· Orders and inventories supplies and reagents
· Maintains appropriate logs and records, ensures back up of databases
· Conduct data analysis with instruction and review from PI
· Adheres to University policies and procedures

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience:
Minimum 18 months relevant experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
· Experience in sample preparation and data reduction for analysis of d2H and d18O values using a Picarro, and alkalinity titrations
· Experience in sample preparation for measurement of d13CDIC and d13C and d18O values for carbonate samples using a Gasbench
· Experience measuring d13C, d15N, and/or d34S in organic matter a plus
· Ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail
· Ability to work independently as well as in collaborative environments
· Strong organizational skills and careful record keeping for analytical processes and databases
· Commitment to laboratory safety protocols
· Reliable and dependable
