The Department of Medicine, Nephrology has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Faculty, Open Rank - Medicine, Nephrology (MTI & Transplant Nephrology Medical Director). The Medical Director is responsible for assisting in the ongoing development and growth of the Adult Kidney Transplant program in collaboration with the Medical and Surgical Director of Transplant Services. M ust be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the inter-dependent roles of the various allied health professions that help manage the care of these patients. Will be responsible for promoting high standards of practice through development of transplant policies, protocols and practice guidelines for this program once again in collaboration with the Administrative Team, Director of MTI and the Medical Director of Transplant Services. Furthermore, this physician must have direct involvement of care at all levels including evaluation of pre-transplant candidates, donor selection, proper maintenance of the waitlist and long-term post-transplant care for Kidney transplant patients. M ust develop a strategic plan to improve and maintain the flow of patients in the outpatient clinics while enhancing the quality of care for Kidney transplant and Kidney disease management patients . W ill be an active member of M & M for the MTI along with active participation in the MTI High Risk Selection Committee. Decisions affecting the care of these transplant patients will be made together with the Surgical Director of Kidney transplant. W ill also collaborate with the Medical Director of Transplant Services to help with the administrative duties to maintain the exc eptional practices required across all MTI divisions. Practice Locations: Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami, Highlands Professional Building.

Job Functions:

Administration:

  • Responsible for the adherence of all transplant policies and procedures as they pertain to the care of patients .

  • Ensure that HIPAA policies are implemented and followed by all clinical, administrative and research staff of this unit.

  • Maintain an effective working relationship with the medical staff, transplant service staff, and administration for this program.

  • Oversees processes to ensure that transplant nursing staff and clinical transplant coordinators are appropriately oriented to the program and continue to participate in transplant related continuing education programs.

  • Help develop the inpatient infrastructure required for the hospital care of Kidney transplant patients – develop inpatient service line in conjunction with the MTI Medical and Surgical Directors.

  • Participate in the research, development and writing of transplant policies, protocols and practice guidelines for this program.

  • Active participation of M & M for the MTI along with active participation in the MTI High Risk Selection Committee .

  • Responsible for guidance and oversight of Transplant Nephrology faculty including professional development, performance evaluations, continuing education, etc.

    Program Initiatives:

  • Lead efforts to develop and maintain a high-quality inpatient & outpatient clinical program for Kidney disease management, up to and including transplantation.

  • Collaborate with the Medical and Surgical Director to establish transplant program goals and objectives consistent with those of the hospital and of the MTI.

  • Collaborate with all multidisciplinary service lines to help in the care of these patients both pre - and post-transplant; including co-chairing weekly Multidisciplinary Pre-Transplant Selection Committee meetings where candidacy of new Kidney transplant referrals are reviewed and accepted or declined for listing .

  • Develop and provide input on the development and maintenance of practice guidelines, policies and methodologies for medical care of these patients.

  • Participate in on site review s by regulatory agencies and insurance companies.

  • Promote research activity within his/her specialty for themselves and other physicians within the M T I, thus enhancing both clinical and academic endeavors/pursuits.

  • Organize, direct and implement departmental practices along with the Medical Director to en sure continued compliance with applicable laws including the guidelines established by UNOS and CMS for accreditation of the adult Kidney transplant program.

  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationship with colleagues, referral MDs, hospital personnel, and patients/families to achieve maximum operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

  • Ensure medical attending physician availability to render care to our patient population .

  • Demonstrate consistent, efficient, and cost-effective quality transplant care .

  • Participate in transplant patient/family satisfaction projects.

  • Meetings that must be attend ed : Selection Committee, High Risk MTI, M&M, and QAPI Transplant Division.

  • Participat e in the advancement and education of medical students, residents, and fellows.

  • Participat e in the development and management of new and ongoing clinical trials.

    Quality

  • Provide physician leadership to the Transplant program’s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Committee .

  • Participate in Monthly Program-specific QAPI committee meetings .

  • Attend MTI QAPI Committee meetings and participate in process improvement plans.

  • Analyze outcomes and trends in data analysis to determine appropriate performance metrics.

  • Provide physician leadership and expertise to identify and align specialty benchmarks .

  • Assist in data collection, analysis, trending and interpretation of data .

  • Identify and provide physician leadership to performance improvement activities .

  • Participate in the development and revision of treatment guidelines, policies and protocols.

  • Report quality of care issues promptly to the appropriate individuals , committees and hospital administration.

  • Identify and report deficiencies in transplant care policies, guidelines and protocols.

  • Consult with appropriate medical staff and administration regarding quality care issues and adverse outcomes; identify areas to improve patient care.

  • Assure continuum of care for patients being managed in the Kidney failure program.

    Clinical Education:

  • Ensures education is provided for hospital staff regarding transplant program policies and appropriate medical practices.

    Business Development/Community Outreach:

  • Maintain relations with referring physicians and community organizations whose activities relate to these transplants.

  • Participate in and support business development activities to increase physician patient referrals.

  • Participate in the development of business development and community collateral materials.

  • Serve as a resource for referring physicians and provide timely response and feedback.

  • Oversee and participate in fundraising activities in support of transplant needs.

  • Participate in hospital, physician and community education and outreach activities as may be requested by administration.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Board certified in Medicine with a completed fellowship in Nephrology and underwent Transplant Fellowship.

  • More than 7 years of transplant experience.

    Certification and Licensing:

  • Currently licensed to practice medicine in Florida/Able to obtain licensure in Florida.

    Experience:

  • Current Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor

  • Member in good standing with existing organization

  • Minimum of five years clinical experience in Transplantation

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to accept and implement change.

  • Ability to problem solving to make effective decisions.

  • Demonstrated history of positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, administrators and patients.

  • Ability to show leadership qualities in the past
