The IT Security Engineer plays a pivotal role in protecting data and systems from cyber-attacks. You must plan and execute security measures to prevent unauthorized access while performing intermediate level tasks and activities in support of security technology and security processes. With a keen eye for detail, you must conduct a comprehensive risk assessment, identify vulnerabilities within the network, and configure systems to enhance existing security features. You must work closely with IT teams to document tasks and activities that are necessary to fulfill commitments. You must analyze and solve problems with critical thinking and technical expertise while keeping up to date with emerging threats and technologies while utilizing your engineering mindset to approach security challenges with a systematic, thorough, and logical approach, ensuring that the best practical solutions are evaluated and executed once decided.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engineering mindset to approach security challenges such as envisioning multiple solutions, evaluating and iterating, learning from failures, and balancing criteria and constraints.
Works with peer groups to apply relevant security solutions to reduce overall security risk.
Identifies current and emerging technology issues, security trends, vulnerabilities, and threats.
Conducts proactive research to analyze security weaknesses and recommends appropriate strategies.
Maintains software and hardware in relation to security.
Develops and maintains documentation for new or implemented solutions.
Sources new security solutions to better protect the organization.
Analyzes and diagnoses basic-moderate information security system problems.
Applies analytical skills and technical knowledge to solve problems that are of basic-moderate difficulty or moderate in complexity.
Utilizes knowledge of technology, products, and services to build enterprise security solutions.
Serves as a liaison and provides verbal/written communication between business stakeholders and IT staff related to initiatives or functions.
Assists with internal/external audits.
Participates in an on-call rotation as needed
Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Intermediate knowledge with several security technologies, such as NGFW, WAF, SIEM, Vulnerability Management, CSPM and endpoint security
Intermediate knowledge of Cloud infrastructure, security architectures, and standards
Intermediate understanding of PII, PCI, HIPAA, NIST standards
Intermediate understanding of technical issues and the ability to manage them within a fast-paced business environment
Intermediate knowledge and experience with web-based applications or web-services
Intermediate working knowledge of network and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols)
Intermediate knowledge of risk assessment tools, technologies, and methods
Intermediate knowledge of disaster recovery, computer forensic tools, technologies, and methods
Ability to demonstrate basic understanding of current threats to Cloud infrastructure and/or IT infrastructures at technical level
Ability to automate/script basic daily tasks through Python, Bash or equivalent
Solid interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate network security issues to peers and management
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software
Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationwide up to 15% of the time
Spoken and written fluency in English
This job requires use and exercise of independent judgment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related IT field OR additional experience above the minimum will be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis required
A minimum of 4 years' IT industry experience in a corporate environment required
A minimum of 2 years' experience as a security engineer required
Experience in designing and implementing standards, specifications, and procedures for IT security preferred
Experience with anti-virus software, intrusion detection, firewalls, and content filtering
At least 1 security-related certification, such as CISSP, SECURITY+ is desired
