Overview

The Manager, External Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility is responsible for managing and executing public relations programs that position Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits as an industry leader and responsible business. This role will ensure that all public-facing communications uphold brand standards and align with the Company’s overarching vision and strategy. While the primary focus of this role is public relations, the manager will also support with social media and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, providing an exciting opportunity to enhance the company’s external reputation and community impact.

Primary Responsibilities

Public Relations:

• Write press releases and other media materials on key topics, including business achievements, strategic partnerships, wine and spirits trends, corporate social responsibility, events, and personnel announcements

• Identify and support local market PR opportunities, providing guidance and best practices to ensure consistent messaging across markets

• Serve as a trusted resource for market leaders, assisting in the development of localized PR strategies that align with both corporate and market-specific goals

• Actively monitor business and trade media to identify trends, industry developments, and relevant news

• Facilitate and coordinate media interviews with key Company leaders and subject matter experts

• Repurpose editorial content featured on corporate website to expand leadership with the press and other channels

• Assist with crisis communications planning and response

• Develop and maintain annual PR editorial calendar, and track any pending or published media coverage

• Manage media reporting tools to provide weekly news recaps and quarterly media results

Additional Primary Responsibilities

Social Media:

• Support development of annual content calendar and serve as point person on organizational news and media coverage to share across the Company’s Instagram, Facebook, and X platforms

• Monitor social media conversations and coordinate responses to enhance and protect the Company’s reputation

Corporate Social Responsibility:

• Assist in implementation of corporate CSR initiatives including support for the Company’s national volunteering and giving program, VolunCheers

• Identify opportunities to promote the Company’s national and local philanthropic activities

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or related field, plus minimum 5 years of experience in an agency or corporate environment

• Demonstrated writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to distill, organize and convey complex information in a logical, visually pleasing, and user-friendly manner with the ability to direct communications at broad audiences

• Experience practicing media relations in corporate or agency environment

• Proven success in getting articles and news stories published in national, local and trade publications, online news, blogs and broadcast outlets

• Experience planning and executing events, including logistics and speech writing

• Solid understanding of organizational communications and media relations and their impact on a business with experience in developing proactive, innovative corporate communications campaigns

• Experience conveying messages and information using creative approaches that may involve creative graphic design, multi-media, social media, and video production and editing, preferably within an online organization

• Experience using SharePoint or similar internal communications tools

• Experience using media monitoring and reporting platforms such as Cision or similar tools

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Verbal communication/presentation skills with demonstrated ability to tailor messages to specific constituencies

• Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, coworkers, other business areas and government agencies as required

• Planning and organizational skills necessary to coordinate workload around multiple assignments

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or mobile device

  • Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping

  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
