The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director, Research Support to work at the UHealth Medical campus in Miami, FL.
CORE JOB SUMMARYThe Director, Research Support oversees research and grant activities within the department with the goals of maintaining financial solvency and academic growth. Moreover, an employee in this position serves as a mentorto department management and staff on issues of research funding
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops reports summarizing research activity within the department on a regular basis.
Maintains current knowledge of institutional and external policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Serves as liaison to federal agencies and other funding sources.
Creates reports detailing grant spending and ensures that investigators are appropriately using funding.
Oversees research initiatives and database personnel.
Monitors projects to ensure positive project evaluations, future sustainability, and benefits.
Reviews monthly institutional reports of research account and works with investigators to resolve discrepancies.
Screens department budget assists in the assignment of expenditures and identifies areas of opportunity for cost-saving.
Participates in various University research councils, committees, and research organizations.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Department Specific Functions
The Director of the Sylvester Office of Outreach and Engagement (SOOE) reports to the Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and works closely with Sylvester Administrative leadership and other COE team members. The Director is responsible for all operations of the SOOE and manages personnel, program initiatives, and outward facing partnerships such as the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) in accordance with Sylvester’s strategic plan and guidance of the AD of COE. The Director of SOOE works collaboratively with Sylvester components (e.g., Offices of Education and Training and Inclusive Excellence) and research programs on various data-driven outreach efforts to ensure the Center works bi-directionally with diverse community stakeholders throughout Sylvester’s catchment area to enhance local capacity for translational research. The Director is responsible for tracking and reporting all outreach initiatives on a regular basis and reviewing impact with the AD for COE, Sylvester Administration. Operationally, the Director is responsible for scheduling SOOE resources and team members, budgeting, and partnership with external stakeholders including drafting of MOUs and Letters of Support with various government and community partners, as needed. Management The Director will be affiliated with various local, state, and national groups focused on outreach and community health care initiatives, including the South Florida Cancer Control Collaborative and various Department of Health Task Forces to address community needs across South Florida.
Outreach and Engagement
Supports AD of COE in the development and implementation of a dynamic community engagement strategy that strengthens the presence and impact of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This role focuses on cultivating relationships with local arts organizations, schools, and community groups, and positioning Sylvester as a central figure in the region's health landscape
Serving as the primary ambassador, the coordinator promotes Sylvester’s mission, programs, and outreach events, fostering meaningful connections that enhance community education, engagement, and impact
Builds and sustains relationships with local schools, arts organizations, and community groups to expand Sylvester’s reach and impact, acting as the primary point of contact for community engagement efforts
Designs and implements comprehensive community engagement strategies that are comprehensive, innovative, and aligned with Sylvester’s strategic goals and Cancer Center Support Grant requirements
Develops and maintains a network of community partners, identifying opportunities for collaboration and engagement, maintaining accurate records of community engagement activities, and representing Sylvester at community events, meetings, and other public forums
Builds strong relationships with community to understand their needs and preferences, encouraging their participation in activities and soliciting feedback to continuously improve programs
Helps manage Sylvester’s Community Committee(s) including increasing membership to ensure representation from community leaders and populations from the Sylvester 4-county catchment area, and development of workgroups or subcommittees focused on specific counties or cancer control-related topic.
Works collaboratively with community partners and research or clinical teams throughout UHealth/Miller School of Medicine to develop innovative, data-driven community outreach activities aimed at addressing the health and social concerns of the populations in the Sylvester catchment area
Actively participates in faculty and staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
Collects, analyzes, and maintains data on activities and events
Oversees and supports the team to execute the programming that meets the needs of SOOE’s diverse community partners
Monitoring of SOOE Metrics
Collaborate with Administrative team to evaluate, report and improve tracking of SOOE metrics important for evaluation of programmatic activities. Create dashboards to expedite data summaries and visualization for
Continually evaluate operations of the team/programs to ensure on-going effectiveness and impact on SOOE’s outreach and engagement efforts
Ensure development, implementation, dissemination of program materials which enhance knowledge, understanding, and impact of SOOE’s work
Collaborate with the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) leadership and Sylvester administration to track and monitor community outreach and engagement activities/efforts across the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Leadership and Management
Build and lead a highly effective team(s) implementing SOOE’s programs in line with Sylvester’s strategic plan and the vision of the AD for COE, informed by the requirements for NCI designation;
Work collaboratively with key members across Sylvester to coordinate community-facing prevention and survivorship initiatives
Responsible for preparing, monitoring, and maintain fiscal integrity of SOOE
Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in public health, Health Administration, Social Work, or another relevant field is preferred
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience leading community-based projects or research is required.
