The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director, Research Support to work at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE SUMMARY

The Director, Research Support Administration and Operations oversee research and grant activities within the department with the goals of maintaining financial solvency and academic growth. Moreover, an employee in this position serves as a mentor to department management and staff on issues of research funding.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops reports summarizing research activity within the department on a regular basis.2. Maintains current knowledge of institutional and external policies and procedures to ensure compliance.3. Serves as liaison to federal agencies and other funding sources.4. Creates reports detailing grant spending and ensures that investigators are appropriately using funding.5. Oversees research initiatives and database personnel.6. Monitors projects to ensure positive project evaluations, future sustainability, and benefits.7. Reviews monthly institutional reports of research account and works with investigators to resolve discrepancies.8. Screens department budget assists in the assignment of expenditures and identifies areas of opportunity for cost-saving.9. Participates in various University research councils, committees, and research organizations.10. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT SPECIFICS

SCCC Research Administration and OperationsJob Responsibilities:• Reports directly to the AD, Research Administration supporting the creation and adherence of administrative policies and focusing on the efficient management of Sylvester research laboratories. Included but not limited to:o PI citing the use of Shared Resources in publicationso PI completion of intramural funding reporting requirements• Coordinates and supports trainings made available by Sylvester's Office of Education and Training to ensure faculty and staff are leveraging training modules.• Works with Sylvester Administrative Leadership Team to leverage data on member funding and funding opportunities and connect with individual laboratory managers to support grant applications • Will work with all Cancer Center PIs and laboratory managers to develop and implement standard operating procedures for individual laboratory usage of Sylvester Pre and Post award offices• Oversees and ensures laboratory managers can effectively manage all phases of grant submission processes for PI labs and their lab members; ensure compliance with requirements, deadlines, deliverables, and efficient management of awards (including annual progress reports, finan cial reporting and renewals)• Lead the successful training of lab managers on the grant submission processes. Including:o Train and oversee lab managers to ensure the writing and organization of grants is aligned with funding scope and guidelines.o Train and oversee management of submissions, progress reports and compliance requirements including post-award management of expenses to ensure use of funds and proper allocation• Ensure individual lab’s effective management of timing and planning for efficient grant submissions• Serve as the lead liaison with the University’s operational administrative units such as Human Resources, Information Technology, Space Management, Facilities, and central administrative units on behalf of research labs.• In conjunction with PIs, interviews prospective lab managers, provides recommendation and coordinates personnel action(s) and paperwork for the individual laboratory• Create economy of scales for supplies, consumables and space and equipment utilization across laboratories• Oversee the adherence to compliance with IACUC, IBC, HSRO (reorganization/writing/submission: IACUC protocols and addendums, IBC and HSRO applications)• Manage concerns, requests, and improvements with core facilities, including DVR.• Support lab manager development of budgets and collection of all administrative supporting documents.• Working with ADs, will support workforce development initiatives in alignment with university policies including developing a plan to address workforce engagement survey results.

Maintains current knowledge of institutional and external policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
