CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs chart review/pre-screening activities for study participant eligibility and coordination of simple clinical research protocols. Maintains enrollment procedures according to the protocol. Coordinates routine activities of clinical studies including data collection and maintenance, planning study timelines, schedules appointments and study visits, meeting scheduling, and project evaluation. Performs moderate to complex research tests/ experiments and adapts procedures for quality improvement under supervision. Understands and follows technical instructions for operating clinical research equipment, problem solves when operational failures occur. Assists in observing and informing the PI/supervisor of adverse events, including those reported by study participants. Addresses adverse events per protocol, advocating for study participants and quality standards throughout the lifespan of the study. Identifies, reports, and helps problem solve protocol deviations and unanticipated occurrences. Follows the appropriate fundamental requirements of all international, national, and local regulatory bodies. Knows the contents and maintenance of study-specific clinical research regulatory binders. Maintains requisite skills and mandatory training in safety, equality, responsible conduct of research, continuing education, and research competencies. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

The clinical research coordinator will support recruitment and data collection activities under the direction of the principal investigator (Sara St George PhD). Dr. St George’s program of research is focused on promoting health, prevent chronic disease, and foster positive relationships among Hispanic families by developing, evaluating, and disseminating evidence-based multigenerational digital lifestyle interventions.

The position is full-time, with remote and in-person presence at the Miller School of Medicine at the Medical Campus of University of Miami.

Ongoing projects in the lab which the manager would support are:

  • Healthy Juntos: This is an efficacy trial of a family-based digital obesity prevention intervention (“Healthy Juntos”) for Hispanic parents and their 12–15-year-old adolescents. Healthy Juntos is a web-based application that includes eleven modules of content for parents and adolescents delivered over six months. Eligible families who chose to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to either use our family health app or receive free digital health resources.

  • Con Cariño Abuelita: This is a pilot study of a multi-generational family-based digital cancer and obesity prevention intervention (“Con Cariño Abuelita”) for Hispanic cancer survivors and their daughters/daughters in-law. Con Cariño Abuelita is a web-based application that includes eight modules of content for over three months. Eligible families who chose to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to either use our family health app or receive free digital health resources.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Overall study coordination across the lab (e.g., achieving recruitment milestones, assisting with progress reports, and coordinating team members to ensure timely completion of projects).

  • Attending weekly lab meetings and project-specific meetings and assisting with preparing agendas and summarizing meeting minutes.

  • Holding weekly group or individual staff meetings to provide overall supervision to recruitment and data collection team members.

  • Attending/leading meetings with community partners for ongoing projects or building new relationships with new community partners.

  • Assisting with “root cause analysis” discussions with team members if non-compliance occurs and developing corrective action plans as needed.

  • Assisting with other team members’ recruitment and retention efforts (e.g., problem solving recruitment barriers, creating actionable recruitment plans, etc.).

  • Supporting collaborations with other research teams, schools, universities, partners, or investigators.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
