Job Title: AccountantJob Description

The accountant performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization. The role includes preparing monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements, maintaining the general ledger, and coding invoices. The accountant also sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books. This position involves reconciling bank accounts at least monthly, verifying deposits, and addressing inquiries from banks. Additionally, the accountant reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts, as well as manages accounts receivable collections. The accountant verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts. The role provides outside auditors with assistance by gathering necessary account information and documents for the annual audit. The accountant files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies, coordinates with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems, and recommends updates to enhance the accounting software. The position also involves managing the purchasing and invoicing system and maintaining knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
