CiTi BOCES Special Education Teacher - Middle School 8:1:1, Stepping Stones Day Treatment Program in Mexico, New York

CiTi BOCES is currently seeking a certified Special Education Teacher, preferably with experience teaching at the middle school level. As a special education teacher in a middle school day treatment program, you will provide specialized instruction and support to a small group of students with very high needs in most or all needed areas, including academic, social and/or interpersonal development, physical development, and management. You will work collaboratively with 1 full-time paraprofessional, a behavior support professional, a clinician, administrator, clinical program manager and other related service providers to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for your students. You will also implement individualized education plans (IEPs), monitor student progress, and communicate with families and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Collaborate with other educators, parents, and specialists to create and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s unique requirements.

  • Instructional Planning and Delivery:

  • Design and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state standards and IEP goals.

  • Adapt instructional strategies to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

  • Regularly assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and growth.

  • Adjust teaching methods based on assessment data.

  • Behavioral Support:

  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed.

  • Collaborate with behavioral support staff to ensure student needs are being met.

  • Promote positive behavior and social-emotional development.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with clinical and behavioral staff who support the mental health and behavioral needs in the program.

  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and strategies.

  • Professional Development:

  • Stay informed about best practices in special education and mental health.

  • Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance skills. [i]

Job Qualifications

  • NYS Certification: Hold a valid New York State certification in Special Education.

  • Experience: Previous teaching experience, especially in middle school or similar settings, is preferred.

  • Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.

  • Strong classroom management and behavior management skills.

  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
