Microsoft Tax & Customs Department is responsible for Worldwide Tax & Customs Reporting, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and customs function. The Senior Tax Manager role’s primary responsibilities include (1) providing advisory and operational support across Microsoft and manage engagement with tax authorities concerning LATAM tax matters and (2) advise in a collaborative role with a broad mandate to support Microsoft business and go-to-market strategies globally.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on all tax matters throughout LATAM.

  • Perform legal research and analysis on a variety of LATAM tax issues.

  • Monitor business and legislative changes impacting compliance across LATAM region.

  • Advise on global tax considerations, implications and risk regarding Microsoft business initiatives.

  • Work cross-functionally and across regions to provide clear, consistent and comprehensive tax requirements to enable strategic business and improve customer experience and internal systems.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations in both launch and operations globally.

  • Develop strong understanding of Microsoft businesses and internal financial systems and tools.

  • Work cross-functionally within Tax and across Business, Finance, Legal and Engineering.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experienceo OR Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field; J.D.; LL.M. in Taxation) AND tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experienceo OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of indirect tax advisory experience

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in taxes across LATAM;

  • Fluency in English or Spanish

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 12+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experienceo OR Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field; J.D.; LL.M. in Taxation) AND 11+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience

  • JD, CPA or Masters in Taxation preferred;

  • Desired fluency in Brazilian Portuguese.

  • Experience in both industry and law firm/Big 4 accounting firm highly desired;

  • Strong partnering capabilities with proven ability to develop meaningful relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and to influence and collaborate across groups;

  • Ability to think end-to-end from strategic planning through multi-year execution;

  • Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills; ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear, simple way;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience exercising mature judgment and best practices;

  • Proven success managing and prioritizing multiple projects across a fast-paced and continually changing environment;

  • Highly organized, self-motivated and autonomous with ability to quickly identify prioritization and execute efficiently.
