Project Overview:

The Bechtel renewables team will perform project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup for the Escape Solar Project. Escape Solar is a 185MWac / 226.5MWdc utility-scale PV solar project, located Lincoln County, NV. The owner has the necessary approvals and commercial arrangements in place for an initial build of 70MWac (Block 1) followed by the remaining 115 MWac. (Block 2)

Job Summary:

The Civil Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the applicable discipline. Supervises and directs craft, craft supervisors and others including Subcontractors, as assigned. Reports to Project Site Superintendent for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned specific tasks. Supervises the development of budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure program/project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed within budget and according to specifications. Resolves problems and coordinates the final turnover of work to downstream work activities. Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of a high-performance project team. Has overall responsibility for scope execution, ensuring that Program/Project is delivered within contract requirements, standards of quality and safety and to Customer and Bechtel performance expectations.

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision

  • Supervises and/or directs craft activities as assigned.

  • Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft.

  • Provides senior leadership for environmental, safety, health, injury/accident and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading direct hire safety meetings.

  • Interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs. Approve workforce job requirements and review work accomplished by each craft.

Planning / Productivity

  • Determines workforce requirements.

  • Coordinates established area operational plans.

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labor and maintaining the three week look ahead schedule for labor and equipment.

  • Lead the preparation and implementation of the 3-week look-ahead and four-week rolling schedule and budget control with support from Field Engineering and Project Controls.

  • Provide input to Field Engineering for quantity tracking application.

Tools, Materials & Equipment

  • Monitors tool and equipment usage on the site.

  • Oversees the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.

  • Review and approve major equipment mobilization and demobilization.

Safety & Quality

  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.

  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.

  • Inspect area for unsafe conditions, behaviors and practices and take appropriate corrective action to mitigate and eliminate.

  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work behaviors and practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) Lead.

  • Be the Champion for the ZERO Accident Program. Ensure that Bechtel Core processes and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.

Technical

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents

  • Oversees engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.

  • Ensure the applicable design documents for Civil commodities are provided to direct hire craft or subcontract personnel to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound communication skills.

  • Sound interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Experience in cost management, production management, estimating, and forecast development.

  • Previous supervisory experience within civil discipline.

  • Have a working knowledge of operation of Civil operations such as fencing, grading, roads, and building structures.

  • Must be physically capable to conduct and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, walking on uneven surfaces.

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.

  • Experience managing subcontractors and basic contract language.

  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.

  • Extensive understanding of production management including scheduling.
