About the Role

The Engineering Manager will provide technical leadership, direction, and support for the engineering and product testing activities necessary to support customer’s long-term goals as well as short-term performance objectives. The manager must establish and maintain strong, proactive relationships with technical resource groups within and outside of Magna. The ability to teach and institutionalize comprehensive problem solving in a technically challenging and fast-moving business environment through a participative management approach is essential for the success of this role.

The Engineering Manager will lead a cross-functional engineering team and will be responsible for the People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost & Innovation performance while delivering a world-class service to our customer. The Engineering Manager ensures all requirements associated with the successful testing and engineering services of vehicles for the plant’s customer.

This position is also responsible for planning activities with regards to manufacturing equipment including writing specifications for new equipment.

Your Responsibilities

  • Present and communicate status to the business leaders and customer. Review and interpret customer specifications and provide customer feedback.

  • Implement change as directed in the product lifecycle process and recommend process improvements.

  • Drive the engineering team to meet or exceed program objectives (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Morale and Cost across products).

  • Coordinate projects and their interdependencies. Manage and utilize resources across projects.

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the Process and Test Engineering teams. Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management and leads process improvements.

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.

  • Participate in manpower requirements planning and overtime scheduling. Integrate all operations engineering changes into production. Develop ramp-up plans for launching programs.

  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.

  • Lead, develop and motivate the team.

  • Set yearly plans and goals for the department, give direction on expected performance, provide regular performance evaluations and ongoing feedback. Accountable for all department objectives and achieving agreed targets for key performance indicators.

  • Planning of equipment needed for the production process.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role

  • Experience in technology and solutions

  • Advanced user of CAD programs (e.g. Catia V5)

  • Fluent in English

  • Ability to work variable shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed

  • Highly motivated, self-directed, creative, innovative, and people-oriented person

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing operation systems (ERP, MES, etc.).

  • Strong listening, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills. Attention to detail and exceptional planning and organizational skills. Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and with a variable workload (flexible hours)

Your preferred qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the automotive industry

  • Master’s degree

  • Knowledge and execution experience as it relates to APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans and Process Flow

  • Knowledge and proven skills in World Class Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen

  • Ability to work variable shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed
