City of Menominee Firefighter in Menominee, Michigan

The City of Menominee is accepting applications for the creation of an eligibility list for the position of firefighter. Applicants must possess a Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council (M.F.F.T.C.) Fire Fighter I Certification, or equivalent certification from another state, and agree to acquire Fire Fighter II certification within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment. Qualified applicants must satisfactorily pass a written aptitude exam, a physical ability test, psychological examination, physical (including drug screening), and a background investigation prior to hiring.

Proof of Firefighter I certification must accompany application at the time of submittal. Applications will be accepted until 12 Noon on July 31, 2024.

The City of Menominee's residency requirement states that you must reside within 20 miles of the City limits within six months of hire date.

SUMMARY

Perform firefighting work in the protection of life and property; operate and assist in maintaining firefighting equipment, apparatus and facilities. Participate in rescue and fire prevention activities. Perform related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fire Chief, or other fire officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples

do not include

all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform).

  1. Respond to fire alarms with fire company; connect and control hose lines and nozzles; erect ladders; turn water on or off; and, use extinguisher, axes, hooks, lifelines and other tools.
  2. Operate firefighting apparatus, pumps and other auxiliary fire equipment.
  3. Remove persons from danger and give first aid as necessary.
  4. Perform general maintenance work in the upkeep of a fire station, clean and wash rooms, care for grounds and make minor repairs.
  5. Wash and dry hose.
  6. Wash, clean and polish fire apparatus.
  7. Participate in pre-fire planning and prepare necessary reports.
  8. Maintain equipment including air packs and extinguisher.
  9. Participate in overhaul and salvage operations.
  10. Participate in drills and other training functions and classes.
  11. Perform related work as required.

Knowledge of the geography, streets, and principal locations in the City.

Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
