Position overview:

The Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), a Directorate of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Stanford University, seeks a Research Associate with a strong background in the application of protein purification, crystal growth, X-ray crystallography, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and EXAFS methods to metalloenzyme systems to work in a diverse team of scientists developing and delivering high-throughput automation tools for drug discovery. This project is part of DOE-BES¿s BRaVE aware designed to leverage DOE¿s distinctive national laboratory capabilities to support U.S. preparedness and response to future potential biological crises.

In this position, you will work within the Structural Molecular Biology group at SSRL and work closely with the staff scientists and engineers across divisions to focus on interfacing beamline automation in hard X-ray spectroscopy with solution and crystal sample. measurements. You will have the opportunity to participate in projects relevant to biological metalloenzyme catalysis, working closely with SSRL staff members and the BRaVE collaborators involved in metalloenzyme structure function correlations. You will have the opportunity to publish joint-author manuscripts.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with BRaVE scientists performing biological X-ray measurements to understand drug-metalloenzyme interactions and to contribute to the development of new drugs.

  • Write proposals to obtain beamtime at SSRL and assist in data-collection on biological systems relevant to human diseases and pathogenesis.

  • Work closely with BRaVE engineers to develop high-throughput pipeline for XAS and EXAFS measurements.
