Meta Network Engineer, Mobile App Testing in Menlo Park, California
Summary:
Meta's Network Infrastructure Services (NIS) team is actively looking for a network engineer to help us build out infrastructure which builds the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible. Our team collaborates with product application and infrastructure teams to tackle complex business challenges related to the Quality of Experience (QoE) of our Family of Apps, Short-Form Video, and GenAI. To ensure optimal performance, we maintain a state-of-the-art lab environment that replicates real-world network conditions, including various wired, wireless, networking capabilities. This controlled lab environment enables us to thoroughly test and validate the performance of Meta's applications under various scenarios, ensuring a seamless user experience across different platforms.

Network Engineer, Mobile App Testing Responsibilities:
Design, build and integrate end-to-end testbeds in a controlled lab environment that includes mobile devices, applications, wired and wireless access technologies such as Wi-Fi and cellular, IPv4/IPv6 networking elements and various test equipment, to replicate real-world scenarios and validate app functionality, performance, usability
Leverage lab environments to plan and execute comprehensive test campaigns and testing strategies for social applications across various platforms with the goal of ensuring high-quality user experience
Collect unique product team and infrastructure team requirements to validate application functionality, performance, usability based on on application-level metrics and network-level metrics across various networking conditions
Validate app functionality, performance, and usability on various devices, including smartphones and tablets, to identify areas for improvement and optimize the overall user experience
Perform hands-on troubleshooting and issue resolution of applications, devices and network elements across end-to-end testbeds during the test and validation campaigns to identify root causes and develop remediation strategies
Innovate and automate new capabilities across end-to-end testbeds in the controlled lab environments to provide actionable insights useful for product improvement and accelerate testing
Contribute to and maintain technical documentation, runbooks to ensure knowledge sharing and collaboration across teams and the execution of test campaigns
Collaborate across engineering and product management teams and adapt to changing requirements and testing needs to meet expectations of cross-functional teams
Continuously evaluate and improve lab infrastructure, testing processes, automation capabilities, test & tooling capabilities to ensure alignment with industry best practices

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
6+ years of experience in laboratory environments, managing multi-vendor equipment, utilizing wireless and wired network test equipment, and interfacing with mobile devices
Experience leading the development and execution of tests, requirements identification, data collection & results reporting
Understanding of network protocols (e.g, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DHCP/DNS)
Familiarity with end-to-end networking architectures (e.g, LAN, WAN)
Understanding of wireless access networks (e.g, Wi-Fi, 4G/LTE, 5G)
Knowledge of network security protocols (e.g, SSL/TLS, VPN) in the context of cellular and Wi-Fi
Understanding of network monitoring tools (e.g, Wireshark, tcpdump) and network analysis techniques (packet captures, protocol analysis)
Familiarity with network-level metric measurements (e.g, throughput, latency, jitter) and device-level metric measurement (e.g, storage, throughput)
Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and deliver against mission critical deadlines
Proven experience working in a global team environment and solving problems with limited supervision

Experience with mobile app testing methodologies (e.g., acceptance, benchmarking, profiling)
Experience with testing frameworks and tools (e.g., Appium, Selenium, Jest E2E)
Understanding of mobile operating systems (Android, iOS) and debugging tool (e.g, ADB)
Knowledge of programming languages and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash)
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD)
Understanding of Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics (e.g., latency, throughput, packet loss), QoE testing methodologies (e.g., network simulation, device testing and the capability to analyze and interpret QoE data
Public Compensation:
$161,000/year to $225,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
