Meta Mechanical Engineer Intern in Menlo Park, California

Meta is seeking a mechanical engineering student to join our Hardware Engineering team. Come and learn about our innovative mechanical design and hardware architectures, which contribute to us building some of the most energy and material efficient data center equipment in our industry. Our servers and data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and our innovative services are delivered. The intern/co-op will work closely with AI, Power, Server, Storage, Network and data center engineering design teams to help design, qualify and optimize our hardware.

Required Skills:

Mechanical Engineer Intern Responsibilities:

  1. Help with design of Meta’s next generation Open Rack based products. These could be in the AI, server, storage, network or power domains

  2. Interface with hardware, power and other mechanical engineers to understand system architecture and design constraints

  3. Create mechanical design concepts for various products and develop these in 3D CAD

  4. Work across a variety of areas such as mechanism design, sheet metal and plastic part design, design for manufacturing, serviceability, and assembly

  5. Design mechanisms and service touch points to improve installation, serviceability and ergonomics of the design

  6. Devise and execute experiments for mechanical system optimization

  7. Build and test prototypes using our in-house workshop and external suppliers

  8. Validate hardware according to plan while keeping a thorough procedural record

  9. Diagnose and the root-cause of part, assembly or design failures with a hands-on approach

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  2. Experience with Pro/Engineer Creo or SolidWorks CAD software

  3. Familiarity with simulation software for FEA or thermal analysis

  4. Troubleshooting and analytical skills

  5. Familiar with design products utilizing sheet metal and plastic technologies

  6. Familiarity with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, standard machine tools and equipment, or similar

  7. Comfortable disassembling and debugging existing designs to come up with better solutions

  8. Demonstrated experience working on projects in team environment to drive progress and achieve goals

  9. Familiar with Tolerance Analysis

  10. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

  2. Understanding of mechanism design, sheet metal, plastic part design, design for manufacturing, serviceability, and/or assembly

  3. Familiar with Tolerance Analysis

  4. Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
