Description
On behalf of our manufacturing client, we are seeking an experienced PowerBuilder Developer to join a fast-paced team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PowerBuilder application development and maintenance, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment. They will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting client/server applications while ensuring their optimal performance and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using PowerBuilder (e.g., versions 12.x, 2019 R3).
Work with DataWindow objects to retrieve and manipulate data efficiently.
Develop, optimize, and debug SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers in relational databases like Oracle, SQL Server, or Sybase.
Utilize PowerScript and object-oriented programming techniques to build scalable and maintainable applications.
Perform application performance tuning, debugging, and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and document requirements.
Conduct application migrations or upgrades to newer PowerBuilder versions or modern platforms (e.g., Appeon).
Integrate applications with APIs, web services (REST/SOAP), or other external systems.
Follow best practices in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including Agile or Waterfall methodologies.
Maintain and enhance existing client/server applications to meet evolving business needs.
Create and maintain technical documentation for new and existing applications.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
Experience: 7+ years of hands-on development experience with PowerBuilder.
Strong knowledge of DataWindow, PowerScript, and client/server architecture.
Proficiency in SQL and relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, etc.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
Familiarity with PFC (PowerBuilder Foundation Classes) is a plus.
Knowledge of web services, APIs, and modern tools like Appeon for application modernization.
Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience migrating legacy PowerBuilder applications to newer platforms.
Familiarity with modern software development tools and methodologies (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Agile).
Exposure to other programming languages or tools (e.g., .NET, Java).
Knowledge of reporting tools like Crystal Reports or Tableau.
Domain experience in manufacturing, retail, e-commerce.
