Job Details JOB SUMMARY The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will lead and manage the EMS operations of Catholic Health. This role includes building and overseeing EMS 911, interfacility transports and direct dial operations, supporting and partnering with community-based volunteer EMS providers, and managing relationships and joint operations with contracted commercial ambulance services. The AVP will ensure the highest standards of emergency medical care and operational efficiency, while fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery across the Nassau and Suffolk regions. In addition, the role requires expertise in EMS education and training. In this capacity, the AVP for EMS will oversee education and training programs for EMS providers both within and outside the Catholic Health System. The AVP will also coordinate and oversee American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Pediatric Life Support training programs. Additionally, the AVP for EMS will function as the health system liaison between hospital staff, pre-hospital care providers, members of the community and contracted ambulance companies. RESPONSIBILITIES Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations of the health system’s EMS, ensuring compliance with all county, state and federal regulations. Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance EMS service delivery and operational efficiency. Coordinate with contracted ambulance commercial services and volunteer EMS providers to ensure seamless integration and optimal utilization of resources. Monitor performance metrics and quality assurance programs to ensure high standards of patient care. · Collaborate with EMS Outreach Coordinators from Catholic Health hospitals to align services and objectives Community Support and Partnership: Serve as the primary liaison with community-based volunteer EMS providers, offering support, training, and resources to enhance their capabilities. Foster strong relationships with community stakeholders, including local government, public safety agencies, and community organizations. Lead initiatives to improve community health outcomes through education, outreach, and preventive programs. Financial Management: Develop and manage the EMS department budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources. Identify and pursue opportunities for grants and other funding sources to support EMS operations and community initiatives. Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to optimize revenue and control costs. Staff Development and Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor EMS personnel, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Ensure ongoing professional development, and EMS and AHA certification for CH EMS staff as well as volunteer providers and other EMS partners Promote a safe and inclusive work environment, adhering to health system policies and procedures. Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including state EMS laws and accreditation standards. Oversee the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Education: A bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services, healthcare administration, public health, or a related field; master’s degree preferred. Work Experience Minimum of 7 years of progressive EMS experience, including at least three years in a leadership role Licenses and Certifications New York State EMT-P Certification (National Registry preferred) Critical Care Paramedic Certification (preferred) AHA BCLS, ACLS Instructor Certification (preferred) Skills and Abilities Knowledge of NYS, Nassau, and Suffolk County EMS systems, regulations, and accreditation standards. Knowledge of EMS educational standards, including Certification, Re-certification, and Continuing Medical Education Knowledge of the NYS DOH EMS Quality Improvement Process Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans. Financial acumen and experience managing budgets. Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships. Excellent organizational skills with a proven track record of meeting objective deadlines Salary Range USD $110,000.00 - USD $125,000.00 /Yr.
